About me: Gelateria Danieli is a small Italian family business in the heart of Richmond. Ice cream connoisseurs travel great distances to experience its unique flavours, Time Out rated it a five star experience, and anybody who tasted it agree that a Danieli ice cream is, simply, a divine experience. That’s why my expectations were so high. Yet nothing could have prepared me for the amazing treat my taste buds were about to experience.
Danieli’s products cater for everyone and are born with its customers needs in mind. Along with ice cream cakes and cannoli, you can enjoy gluten free rice cones and an organic rice milk flavour. They change their flavours on display almost every day so each visit becomes a real ice cream adventure. During the Christmas period, along with the traditional Pandoro and Panettone, you’ll even find a Christmas pudding ice cream especially created by Bridget. She’s invented many flavours and now the ice cream parlour can offer a range of 100 different aromas, from evergreen like chocolate, stracciatella and mint to amaretto, pumkin, organic rice milk and chestnut. Only first class products manage to find a way into their products. They import pure pistachios directly from the South of Italy and use very ripe fruit in season like Sicilian oranges so that there is no need to add extra sugar. That’s the length they’ll go to make sure their ice cream turns out at its best and that, obviously, hasn’t gone unnoticed. Time Out crowned them with a full five star rating declaring it “Best takeaway ice cream in Greater London”, the best restaurants across the capital stock their ice cream dose here and even the Queen couldn’t resist their vanilla flavour and ordered cartons of it for her 80th official birthday celebrations in Kew Gardens.
Carlo and Bridget’s search of new, original and delicious tasting is a never ending mission to create the finest, different and healthy tasting ice cream, mixing traditional Italian recipes with Bridget’s creativity and nutritional knowledge. Why does it taste so different I wonder? Bridget patiently explains that most ice creams on the market today are full of fat. When you eat this kind of ice cream, it literally coats your mouth with a layering of fat, preventing you from tasting its full flavour. That’s the way most ice cream taste all the same. Danieli’s dairy ice cream has a maximum of 5-7% of fat against a 15-20% you find in other brands. The sorbets are fat free and just as delicious.
There is only one health hazard, though. Once you’ve tasted this ice cream, there is no turning back. That’s not just a promise, it’s a fact.
