I've extremely eclectic musical tastes. I'm interested in acoustic, Belfast singer songwriters (they're a great bunch of people), bluegrass, choral music, gigs at the Rotterdam Bar, jazz, the sound of the Mulholland organ in the Ulster Hall (Belfast, NI), rockabilly, roots, traditional music from many parts of the world (if the Norwegians are wondering why I like their music my maternal great grandmother was the daughter of a Norwegian sea farer ... I've other sea farers in my family tree which may account for my feeling that the Rotterdam Bar should be saved for posterity ... some of my ancestors may have had an occasional pint there) and the Ulster Orchestra.Television

About me:
The people in these pictures are Ruth and some of the regulars Rotterdam Sunday night Acoustic Sessions. About me: I'm keen on listening to local musicians in preference to listening to those guys who jet set around the world playing to large crowds who are charged OTT for the pleasure of hearing them. Many of the local guys deserve much more publicity, as well as better support, than they're getting at present. I'm keen ..ing people, to the best of my ability, who are interested in tracing their Irish ancestors. I'm a regular poster on www.genforum.com and www.rootschat.com Both these sites have boards for each of the thirty two counties of Ireland. If I can assist in finding your ancestors, or a reasonably priced B&B where you can stay a few nights whilst you're in Ireland or even a venue that has Open Mic Nights please let me know. Oh .. if you own or manage a venue anywhere in Ireland and are interested in hearing musicians from Belfast then I know one or two who have guitars and will travel.Who I'd like to meet:
People I haven't met already and a few that I've already met who have moved house and have omitted to let me know their current address or phone number. It's great catching up with old friends. I've recently renewed such a friendship thanks to a somewhat lengthy search to find me by an old friend now living in Co. Cork. We lost touch when I was working with the advance publicity team of a travelling circus. The guy spent many years trying to find me. Once he learnt that I had left the circus and was in the north of Ireland he used the old friends network and contacted some of our mutual friends from the 1960s who were able to put him in touch with my sister in England. As Ludwig said to me a couple of weeks ago networking is a great system. You never know what's likely to happen next on the network system. It's hard to say who one would like to meet as "A stranger's just a friend you haven't met." Prior to the beginning of September I'd not heard of Belfast singer song writer Ruth McGonagle. Ruth is great craic and worth meeting. How can you say who you'd like to meet if you've never met them? One way is for a friend to say you ought to meet this person. I often find strangers have a far more interesting story to tell than many of those who are constantly in the headlines. Oh! I've enjoy meeting members of bands and all musicians who play good music and know how to put on a great show. If their conversation's good and they've a yarn or two to tell so much the better. I'm looking forward to meeting many more of you guys both on our MySpace pages and in person. I want to meet as many MySpacers as possible ... specially the Belfast ones and those from other places in the north of Ireland as I feel all of them should know about the Campaign to Save the Rotterdam Bar.Details
