General Rock was set up in the summer of 2004 by Stephen Barcoe. The concert was introduced as a night for the rock musicians of Kilkenny to perform to the public. In its first public appearance 6 bands were invited to perform to a large crowd of music enthusiasts in the Watergate Theatre, Parliament Street, Kilkenny. The concert was such a success in 2005 Stephen ran it again but this time in the more prestigious location of Kilkenny Castle.
With the success of Kilkenny castle on side Two more members became full time co-ordinators of General Rock, Adam J. Power and Ray O'Brien. Between the three a much larger event was tried and tested in St. Canices Co-ed School.
With the support of the Kilkenny Bandits Inline Hockey Team, each year the night of General rock was noted as the best local concert held in Kilkenny.
General Rock is now in its fourth year and promises to be bigger and better than before bringing bands from across Ireland to raise the sign in kilkenny city one more time!
