Who we are and who we've been
Founded in 1957 as "Madrigal Choir" and consisting originally of only 14 members, SUNY Geneseo's Chamber Singers have evolved into a competitive, internationally-renowned group of around 45 talented and dedicated singers who perform a wide variety of repertoire, including madrigals, spirituals, sacred pieces, and folk songs. Chamber Singers are a diverse bunch--while many of us are music majors and concentrates, others are pursuing science, sociology, communication, education, and many of the other fields of study offered by Geneseo. Still, we are close-knit, united by a common appreciation for the beautiful music we perform. The choir is currently under the direction of Dr. Gerard Floriano, a Geneseo graduate and former Chamber Singer himself.
What we do and where we do it
During the academic year, Chamber Singers give many concerts on campus and in town, often sharing the bill with other Geneseo musical ensembles, such as the college-community choir Festival Chorus, the Geneseo Symphony Orchestra and the women's choir Spectrum (formerly Carol Choristers). We also travel around New York State performing at various festivals and competitions, and every three years, during the summer, the choir performs in Europe, most recently in Italy during June 2007. The summer of 2010 will be another tour year, destination TBD.
In May 2008, over two hundred Chamber Singers alumni gathered to sing with us for the choir's 50-year anniversary reunion. The songs currently featured on this page are from that performance.
