Iraqi orphans face uncertain future
It's unclear what will happen to children of war victimsYoung Iraqi boys, some tied to their cribs, lie on the floor at a Baghdad orphanage on June 10, 2007, after they were discovered by U.S. and Iraqi soldiers. A total of 24 naked and abused boys, ages 3 to 15 years old, were found in a darkened room without any windows. Many of the children were too weak to stand once released. A locked room full of food and clothing was found nearby.
Artists Brief Bio:
Genesis Be aka Lo-Key was raised in Biloxi, MS. This female rap artist has been recording music since age fourteen. At age sixteen she produced a mix cd which introduced her the world of Mississippi's underground hip-hop scene. After getting radio spins for a song called "Why?" the young artist decided to record a second album with original music and titled it "17 In America." After winning several talent shows, Lo-Key was asked to perform with The Gulf Coast Youth Symphony at the Beau Rivage Casino. That same summer, she opened up for several mainstream artists including The Ying Yang Twins, 8 Ball and MJG, Trillville and Lil Webbie.
At age 18 she recently founded Open Sky Artwork. The young entrepreneur hopes to bring more attention to artists from the Gulf Coast Region through Open Sky Artworks.
Lo-Key's lyrics, self-written, are filled with attention grabbing topics such as teen pregnancy, child molestation,The War in Iraq, Mississippi's Urban Club Scene....etc.
Her second album, 18 In America, brought forth a single called Fema Check. After being handed to WJZD, the record was put into rotation and created a buzz in Biloxi, that soon rippled through Mississippi Gulf Coast. After surviving Hurricane Katrina, Lo-Key and her older brothers, Ayatollah and Big Brotha wrote Fema Check. Lo-Key comments: "My family and I witnessed first hand, the wrath and destruction brought about by Katrina. After the storm, everyone's spirits were down and we just wanted to lift the spirits of our peers. We combined the reality of the situation, with a satirical, almost comical perspective. The fact that something so positive can generate from such a somber situation is truly a miracle if you ask
me. "
After hurricane Katrina hit, Genesis Be struggled to make sense of the tragedy and began work on her latest album 19 In America. She applied to The Clive Davis Department of Recorded Music (at NYU) and was accepted. She is due to graduate from this highly selective program (admitting only 28 per year) in 2011. She currently resides in Manhattan and is working non-stop to promote her album by street teaming and performances. So far, she has blessed the stage at The Knitting Factory, Sullivan Hall, Bowery Poetry, Sin Sin Freestyle Mondays, Crash Mansion, The National Underground and the XR Bar among others. She was recently a featured artist for Shady 45’s “Don’t Quit Your Day Job” and received a score of 4.75 on a scale of 1 to 5. She was also featured in The Washington Square News (article viewable at this link)

SIGN THE PETITION FOR THE PRESIDENT TO IMPLEMENT A NO FLY ZONE!!!
"President Bush, we urge you to implement a NATO enforced No-Fly Zone over Darfur."
This one year old girl was shot by a Sudanese government helicopter. Her mother was killed. A No-Fly Zone would have prevented the attack. The Sudanese government is using its air force to terrorize civilians on the ground. Women and children in Darfur are routinely massacred by shrapnel- packed bombs designed to slay as many as possible.
Rape is used to destroy group unity. After an air raid, the Sudanese government's proxy-militia groups ride into town where they rape women and even young girls. Rape is also used as an incentive for soldiers to fight, along with stolen property from the cities they destroy.
The Save Darfur Coalition, a non-profit organization, in cooperation with over 150 faith-based, advocacy, and humanitarian aid organizations, is pleased to announce the launch of the Million Voices for Darfur campaign. We believe that while the problems of Darfur are complex, the formula for solving those problems is simple: President Bush, his Administration, and Congress must make ending the genocide in Darfur a top priority. The Million Voices for Darfur campaign will help millions of Americans make their voices heard, and make their government listen. We need your help, however, to make the Million Voices campaign a success. Upon assuming office, President Bush wrote in the margins of a briefing memo on the Rwandan genocide, "Not on my watch." We mean to hold him accountable to that promise. One million postcards, phone calls and electronic signatures will demand a stronger and more effective U.S. response to the violence and atrocities plaguing the region. The Save Darfur Coalition and its partners will collect one million signed postcards urging President Bush to take action. The Coalition and its partners will deliver America's messages to the White House and Capitol Hill, using the campaign to garner national and local media attention for the crisis in Darfur and our shared commitment to taking the action necessary to ending the crisis.

Today I tried to get away from the madness of the city
Went to a farm to relax Ran across a loud mouth hip hop cow That called himself
"Legend Dairy"
I'll admit, he could milk a beat And his words flowed like butter But his catch phrases "Word to the Udders" And "Moo Over!!!" Came up way too often And The chips he was eating Were suspect, at best While praising his minister, Pastor Eyes He deep branded a tattoo Right before my eyes
Talking about things that "could be Found up In the great round up" His dancer circling around us
I figured I needed to U-Tube These dudes because Who'd believe me?
When his D.J., Udder Lee Closed my laptop and said "Take it easy There is only one brand of computer you can use That will get you through the gateway Ain't that right, 'Mac'?" He motioned to his yes cow knowing full well what he would say
So, I decided to just forget about the whole crazy incident And ask you How was your day?
