Genevieve is the girl and Jezebel is the thirty six string a harp. They been performing together musically for a year or so although Genevieve has been playing other classical harps for 14 years.
“Genevieve and Jezebel comes to life in a hypnotizing solo harp performance” said reviewer Cameron Woodhead, (The Age 17th May, 2008) of her collaboration with the San Francisco based ‘Four Larks Theater’ on their performance of ‘Peer Gynt’.
Genevieve also featured in Melbourne singer ‘Grand Salvo’ live performance of his critically acclaimed album ‘Death’ was they performed to a sell out crowd at the Melba Hall last April as well as Meredith 08’ (the rain soaked one!)
They made there debut last September 07' at the Clifden Arts Festival in the West coast of Ireland as a support for John Sheenan (formerly of the Dubliners).
After a little tour of Spain (Almara Bar, Barcelona) and Scotland (Forest Café, Edinburgh, gutters and cobbled stone streets) six months later they returned home to Melbourne.
Since then Genevieve and Jezebel has added Esala on drums and percussion and played many a garage, lounge room, art gallery & venues such as the Wesley Anne, Edinburgh Castle & Northcote Social club. Their more unusual appearances include the L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Week and as a feature of the City Library’s ‘Acoustica’ program.
‘Folk Rhythm and life’ 08 was the highlight of 2008, captivating a large audience in the beautiful setting of Eldorado (with fuck loads of free beer for the artists).
Prior to leaving for Spain and Ireland in 07’ Genevieve was a founding member of the experimental cuteness band ‘The Guns for Saint Sebastian’ an instrumental post rock outfit with the harp as a center piece. They performed at the Northcote Social club with local luminaries ‘Miso’ and ‘The Spheres’. ‘The Guns for Saint Sebastian’ were featured in the 2006 Melbourne fringe festival and performed a live score for Ocean Cares ‘Sea Dragon festival’ in Flinders in 2006.
Genevieve recorded and played with ‘Grand Salvo’ for his critically acclaimed "soil creatures" album.
Genevieve and Esala features in the music for the Four larks theater Jan 09 production of ‘Alice in wonder land’. With Geneveive cast as the over all music director.
Debut ‘Genevieve & Jezebel’ EP recorded and Mixed by Seth Rees is Available thru Polyester recoreds on Brunswick Street and thru the Band. It hand made and sewn together and features three songs.
Currently Genevieve & Jezebel can be found performing with the addition of Amy Tankard on Backing vocals + Percussion and Anita Quayle on cello.
