The Russian virtuoso pianist GéNIA has a highly eclectic repertoire, embracing mainstream classics, new music and multimedia projects.
GéNIA's studies began at the age of four with her great grandmother, pianist and pedagogue Regina Horowitz (wife of Soviet economist Evsei Liberman and sister of pianist Vladimir Horowitz). She continued her studies with pianist and teacher Sergei Yushkevitch at the Kharkov State Institute of Arts.
GéNIA moved to London in 1994 where she received scholarships from the Guildhall School of Music and Trinity College of Music where she studied with Douglas Finch, Paul Hamburger, Caroline Palmer and Joan Havill.
GéNIA's South Bank debut in the Park Lane Group Young Artist Series in 1998 received exceptional reviews and launched her career. Since then, she has toured in Europe, the USA and the Far East. Appearances in London include the Wigmore Hall,
the Barbican Arts Centre, the South Bank Centre, Olympia Earls Court, St. John’s Smith
Square and St. Martin in the Fields. GéNIA also appeared as soloist on soundtracks for
the award-winning films "Paradise Grove" and "Bookcruncher".
In 2001 GéNIA stopped performing classical music and spent all her time concentrating on the experimental and contemporary classical repertoire. She has relentlessly striven to push the boundaries of the established piano tradition by exploring the nature of sound and potential of the grand piano. She has commissioned over 20 new works, particularly developing the repertoire for piano and electronics, collaborating with an eclectic range of artists and was one of the co-founders of the scientifically based project "Infrasonic" for piano, electronics, multimedia and infrasound at the South Bank, which received world-wide media coverage.
GéNIA released three albums of contemporary and electronic music on the Black Box and Nonclassical labels.
Alongside a busy artistic career, GéNIA gives master-classes, seminars, lectures and individual tuition. She has taught at Trinity College of Music, Dartington and COMA Summer Schools, De Montfort University (Leicester), Lewis University (Peoria, USA) and CAPMT (USA).
GéNIA was appointed as an Artist in Residence at Bauer & Hieber Music, London in 2008 where she launched a series of Workshops and Masterclasses.
After taking 6 years break from performing classical music GéNIA is resuming her performances of the established classics. This Myspace page is dedicated to her Classical
Repertoire.
