Gen Nagashima’s debut band was “Middlestone”, where he was the lead man (guitar and vocal) from 1996-2001, before moving to “Jerk Eggplant”. He also played with “Bambooz”, a group that specialized in bamboo instruments. In 2004 he joined “Tabigokoro Ongakudan” (Wanderers’ Band ), where he had the opportunity to play a variety of folk and hand-made instruments, both string and percussion.
As a soloist, he creates a sound world of his own, with a contemplative passionate style, performing extemporaneously on his original “mijyu” water tank percussion, as well as with guitar and voice.
He often performs at shrine and temple precincts and installations in forests. He collaborates with dancers, video artists and other performers. His base is in his native Shonan area, Japan.
