Influences
The Genre Benders are influenced by too many types of music and musicians to mention. We love it all (or,at least, most of it). However, the that may claim a special place in our hearts are the ones that have a totally unique sound all of their own, regardless of style. This includes (but it not limited to): Bob Dylan, Van Halen, The Police, Prince, Hunters and Collectors, The Beatles, Bob Marley and the Wailers, The Pogues, Weddings Parties Anything, Concrete Blonde, Enya, Kitaro, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Coolio, Eminem and many more. It's all good and we aspire to make music like this ...
Sounds Like
Everything and nothing else. The Genre Benders take all their influences and unashamedly try to imitate their excellence. But we hope the combination sounds entirely like us alone and nothing like anybody else.
Recently emerging from a deep-seated desire to make the most of south-east Queensland's creative talent, The Genre Benders is a loose affiliation harvesting the best of local musicians, songwriters and other artists. As the name suggests, The Genre Benders love all forms of music and choose to play accordingly. The setlist includes hard rock, country, reggae, blues, a capella and pop songs forged into a coherent whole by decades of experience. Material in development includes techno/hillbilly and beatboxing all performed with a trademark energetic sense of fun and humour.
The Genre Benders will release their debut CD in early 2007, featuring the performances many local players. Their efforts are the object of study for a PhD based at QUTs Institute for Creative Industries and Innovation.

Hi Huge, finally found a bit of quiet time for listening! Love what you are doing - intelligent and idiosyncratic, solid musical base with a touch of "ooh, I wonder where we can take this?!). I particularly enjoyed Dancing..... vocals and snaky lead guitar; Astral travelling is good with a hint of Ian Dury and I loved Raindrops, short though it may be. Good luck with it - your stuff is always interesting! Cheers, Jet
I have the kids addicted to "Stones" when they get in the car, my 2 year old yells, "Stones, Mommy, STONES!!" Hopefully that CD won't wear out!! Take Care and Happy Holidays!!!
Absolutely! All good fun. Make sure you keep in touch... as you said if we can have a network of bands we know we can work with it makes the process that much easier and enjoyable.

I have always believed Brisbane to be a great launch point for new music. We all seem to be more prepared to look after one another in Brisneyland than compete for space like down south.
Remember....It is only in Queensland that we use the expression "OLD mate"

Thanks for the add Huge.....like the attitude behind the band. With so many musical influences there's more proof that it's only music critics that are snobs about genre. The people listening don't care as long as it's good.
