Picture a bedroom window.
It’s a warm night, after a sun-drenched day.
You’re lying in bed, catching your breath.
All of a sudden, you hear music.
It’s coming from outside.
Somewhere outside a love song is ringing faintly.
It’s sung in French.
It’s a guy, a man, a Frenchman’s voice, clearly.
You realize that the song is being sung for you.
And it’s about time that someone sang like this for you.
The guy can come in, and if he wants to, he can sing many more songs like this, but then closer.
The guy comes in and sings as many songs for you as you want all night long.
Trust me: nice boys can turn angry women into very happy little girls.
Wende Snijders (1978) is one of the Netherlands’ best singers. She became famous thanks to the intense way in which she sings songs by Brel, Brassens and Barbara. Anyone who has seen her live will never forget it.
