Welcome to Virtual Audio Studio: Digital Recording, Mastering, Mixing, Restoration and Film Soundtrack Production Services, located on Massachusetts Ave. right off Veterans Blvd. (VA Studio is a commercial facility, not a house).
Virtual Audio is a full scale commercial digital recording and mastering facility, with 5 recording rooms, including a large main room for drums and full band recording; the acoustic treatment was meticulously designed and the gear carefully selected for the highest quality results. Professional Recording, high definition Mastering & other studio services for all types of music projects. Excellent sounding rooms, hi end gear, low overhead and dedicated, experienced engineers provide an affordable, pleasant & productive production environment.
Virtual Audio Studio is specifically designed for the artist or group looking for 'commercial' results without the high cost and distractions found at most commercial studios.
Project rates available for artists recording an EP or CD.
Hi caliber session musicians available.
Take your recording to the next level with professional affordable Mastering.
Call George at 504 214 1374 or email at virtualaudio@aol.com to set up a free pre-production meeting and/or get a free demo reel of our work. And don't forget to check out our Studio pics to see the superb acoustically treated rooms and layout.
We also do Mixing and Restoration (noise removal & dropout correction without degradation). and Music composition and audio production for film & video, including ADR, mixing, soundtrack, sound design, Dolby 5.1 encoding, etc.
A few things that make Virtual Audio the place to record:
1) Our engineers have many years of experience in all aspects of musical production, and are very efficient at our work. With calm and focused personalities and a willingness to go the extra mile for the best results, we do everything possible to create the most conducive environment for the artist. We are also musicians, so we know how important the music is to you, the artist.
2) The recording rooms sound superb; great acoustics mean great sounds, especially when it comes to drums and mixing.
3) We have a full compliment of instruments, from drum kits to keyboards and amplifiers. You can walk in and start recording without setting up a bunch of equipment if you wish.
4) We usually work on one project at a time, so you will never be rushed out the door. That pefect take or mix may be the next one; who wants to be told that their time is up before they achieve their artistic vision?
5) Our rates are so low that, with all our other advantages, you can achieve the sound you want without the pressure of the clock; recording should be about the music, not the checkbook.
It's simple: our reputation as engineers is as important to us as your reputation as artist is to you; we want the music to sound great just like you do. A great recording benefits everyone involved (just make sure you include our name on the record!). ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
A quick note about mastering: there is a trend in CD production over the last few years that has leaned toward louder & louder masters at the expense of dynamics and clarity. This may or may not serve your music well. To learn more about this so you can make an informed choice, see: TurnMeUp.Org
Lead Engineer George Piazza has recorded numerous studio CD's, singles and other projects, including Down< Tabula Rasa, Buttermilk, Machine Screw, The Mardi Gras Indians, Banda Logun and Irene Sage. He has done live sound for acts such as The Byrds, Timbuk 3, Cyril Neville, Jay Leno and others. He has done several live remote multitrack recordings and was stage manager and monitor engineer for the live cable television show 'Louisiana Jukebox' for two seasons. He has worked in professional and project studios since 1988 and was one of the first New Orleans engineers to assemble and operate a digital project recording studio, in 1994 (with Digidesign's Session 8). He has spoken on panels at PotLuck (TapeOp) and The Cutting Edge Music Business Conference on digital technology, Audio Mastering and how to prepare for studio recording. George is also a member of the Audio Engineering Society.
CURRENT STUDIO NEWS: May 2009: We recently added the UAD-2 Duo card to our system; with a choice selection of plugins for both mixing and mastering, the UAD plugins are outstanding, considered to be as 'realistic' (and more reliable) as the original hardware components they are meticulously modeled from. Our primary collection includes the famed LA-2A, La-3A, 1176LN, Plate 140, Fairchild 670 Limiter, Neve 1073 EQ and 33609 buss compressor, Pultec Pro EQ, and the UA Precision Multiband, Maximizer & EQ, as well as the included Realverb Pro and CS-1 Channel Strip. We also have the SPL Transient Modulator and Cooper Time Cube. Our mixes have improved dramatically with the new compliment of plugins, and the card's processing power has sped up workflow considerably (they sound great too!). With our already extensive microphone, pre-amp, plugin and monitor collection, plus the excellent acoustic environment and friendly pricing, our studio offers more affordable high end results than practically all the regional competition.
March 2009: We have added several new components for recording, including a Rode NTK Tube Condensor microphone; I (George) have recorded with many expensive microphones working at various studios, but I have rarely heard one so present and warm. For vocals, guitars (el. and ac.) and woodwinds, this is 'go to' mic for sure. We have also acquired a Cascade 'Fat Head' Ribbon microphone; for smoothness and realism, this mic can't be beat. We also have several new processors and plugins to enhance our vast collection, for both mixing and mastering; the sounds keep getting better and better. July 19, 2008: We have upgraded our studio with several great products (see our full list in blog): We now have the Algorithmix Red Linear Phase Equalizer, widely regarded by Mastering Engineers as the sweetest digital Linear Phase eq available. We demo'd it last month and were quite impressed by the results; now it is our 'go to' mastering equalizer. More expensive than other LP eq's, but worth it for those who want their music to have maximum warmth and clarity. We have also added the K-Stereo Ambiance Recovery Processor from Bob Katz, (ported by Algorithmix). The K-Stereo extracts and enhances ambient information in mixes; it makes your mixes sound 'bigger' without adding 'mud', and is even capable of bringing to life old cassettes, vinyl and mp3's. Not your everyday DSP, the K-Stereo is a unique process that must be heard to be believed. We now have a pair of JBL LSR4328P reference monitors (along with Alesis M1 620 Actives and the ubiquitous Yamaha NS10's). Combined with our superb acoustic mixing space, the JBL's provide an accuracy that would be difficult to achieve in a typical home studio setup. Finally, we have added two RME Multiface II converters for a total of 36 simultaneous inputs (& outputs). After testing several 'combo' converters that came with built in pre-amps and bundled 'light edition' software, we settled on RME for their quality, flexibility and honesty; one of the few companies that print the actual specs of their products instead of specious and deceptive info. Plus, their Digicheck testing tools are considered an industry standard. With these new additions and our low rates, affordable high quality mastering, mixing, recording and restoration is within reach even for the most budget conscious musician.

Random Bio Stuff: I (George) have been a musician since age 6. I play keyboards, guitar, bass, vocals & sundry, as well as composing, engineering & producing. I have worked in commercial and project studios for many years, as well as doing live sound, including a fun stint as monitor engineer and stage manager for 'Louisiana Jukebox', a live music cable TV show. I have engineered, mastered and produced many singles and CD's for a wide variety of musicians of diverse styles. I occasionally teach piano, and I have done extensive Audio-Visual production. Musical Journey: I was a founding member of the top underground progressive rock group Tabula Rasa for 7 + years, as well as Machine Screw, a funky, anarchistic, tribal rock band - the first to broadcast live performances on the Internet (first webcast: September 7, 1994 @ The Black Cat in Austin, Tx.). I am now together with some of the other founding members of Tabula Rasa, composing and recording new CD's and performing live.
