"The Orbits mix the relentless optimism -- born of Jamaica's early '60s postrevolutionary euphoria -- of tradional ska with influences from the heavier, more politically conscious tone of reggae and other Western genres." - Seattle Weekly, 8/22/07
"[The Georgetown Orbits] really play the roots of the music and it's wonderful," says [Lynval] Golding. "They're one of those bands that reminds me of where I come from. They've got a really great feel for the music." - Interview by Philip Rowe, Beacon Hill News and South District Journal, 3/22/07
The Georgetown Orbits boast a heavy regimen of
traditional Ska and upbeat, roots-influenced Reggae.
They are turning heads in the Northwest as one of the
few bands to pay tribute to the old sounds of Jamaican
Ska, a style which has gained notable popularity in
Seattle since the band’s conception in late 2004.
The nationally distributed 7” single, My Baby’s Okay,
released on Olympia’s Dead End Social Club label, made
its musical mark in February of 2006. The following
summer was spent performing a solid set classic Reggae and Ska at the Seattle
Weekly Music Awards Showcase, Northwest Folklife
Festival, Victoria Ska Festival, and Seattle’s
Hempfest.
With the release of the group’s full-length self-titled debut album in August 2007, the sounds of the Orbits have further penetrated the airwaves of the Northwest earning airplay on 90.3FM KEXP and 91.3FM KBCS (Seattle), 90.7FM KSER (Everett), 89.9FM KGRG (Auburn), and KPSU 1450AM (Portland). Fans of reggae, dancehall, funk, soul, jazz, ska, and rock are now singing along to choruses while they dance to the hard-hitting rhythms and tastefully harmonized horn lines of the Georgetown Orbits.

Divine Greetings: Keep faithful Keep in touch. My new music will uplift you. I absolutely guarantee that you will not be disappointed. In fact I seriously believe that you will be utterly surprised. I have been testing some of the songs out playing them to almost everyone I have come in touch with and...(no hype) everyone gave me the most positive response. So keep holding on a little more. The strategy has to be right. This music must be given time to breathe. I will be launching things real soon. A little different but thunderous. Are you ready to dance? Waith for it. Reggae rules OK. One Love. Spread the word...wait for it! Do you Love Reggae? Keep on Loving it.
