Whether playing solo or with her mini-indie-orchestra, Georgia Fields charms audiences with her blend of timeless pop, vintage folk, and unconventional instrumentation.
Her live ensemble can extend to include a string quartet, brass quintet, clarinet, glockenspiel, melodica, ukulele, and vibraphone and full rhythm section… As well as a confused children’s toy, a lemonade can, and a cordless drill.
Georgia’s debut EP, Drama on the High Seas of Emotion, was independently released in December 2007 to stellar reviews in printed press and radio alike. With each album cover personally handcrafted from a Little Golden Book, Georgia soon sold out. The EP’s title-track peaked at number 4 on Triple J’s Unearthed Pop Charts, and was also featured on ABC 774, Triple J, and 3RRR.
Georgia delighted spectators at The Queenscliff Music Festival (2007, 2008), The Apollo Bay Music Festival (2008), and The St Kilda Festival (2008, 2009). In March 2008, ABC Radio’s Coodabeens Sunday evening program invited Georgia to perform a showcase of the EP live-to-air, which was broadcast nationally. Her song ‘Little Vices’ has since featured on the ABC Compilation Album, Underneath The Radar.
2009 has seen Georgia support the likes of iconic Australian artists Abby Dobson and Angie Hart. Her showcase at The Thornbury Theatre was a gorgeous display of her ability to effortlessly combine the childlike naivety of experimental sounds with mature and considered orchestral arrangements (composed in collaboration with her dear musical partner, Judith).
Buoyed by the success of her Drama… EP, Georgia has set sail for uncharted waters, with the production of her debut full-length album. Its first single, ‘One Finger’, was released in August 2009. It tells a cheeky tale of a fight for the upper hand in a passive-aggressive friendship.
Collaborators on the forthcoming record include multi-instrumentalist extraordinaire, Judith Hamann (cello, harp, vocals, piano, and more)... Engineer whizkid Myles Mumford (Lamplight; Martin Martini & The Bone Palace Orchestra)... and ARIA & APRA-awarded Greg Arnold of Australian folk/rock institution Things of Stone and Wood in the producer’s seat (Carus; Skipping Girl Vinegar).
Stuff that people have said:
"Georgia Fields is a phenomenally accomplished young artist ... While many of her contemporaries share a similarity of delivery, GF is unique and timeless with her style reminiscent of the finest of 60s and 70s female songwriters. Get on the bandwagon now!" (Billy Baxter, ABC Radio National 774)
"With a sweetly distracted style that comes on like a slightly less mannered
Regina Spector, Georgia Fields tells you little adult stories with a child
like innocence... It's cute and clever... Charming, really." (Ross Clelland, Drum Media)
"There is something wonderfully experimental about the way in which Georgia and her musical cohorts jettison a song into the creative stratosphere." (Graham Blackley, Beat Magazine)
"This track [One Finger] heralds the arrival of a truly marked talent, with its mature songwriting and eclectic instrumentation." (Tony McMahon, Inpress Magazine)
"Georgia's business card should read: songbird, hostess, composer, musician and magician." (Paige X. Cho, Live review for Albion Online)
"Truly stunning in visage… Where uncomplicated structure would lead most to sigh at the appearance of convention, the music would glisten and captivate… Anyone who can meld live onstage power-drill into the same company as sweet, vocal harmony deserves some sort of medal." (Atticus Bastow, Live review for Inpress Magazine)
"This EP ["Drama on the High Seas of Emotion"] comes packaged in a cut-to-size Little Golden Books cover, which impresses this scribe to no end ... The title track is a percussive number with splashes of organ and the assured vox of Fields... Breezily effortless." (Adrian May, Inpress Magazine)

Georgia, thanks heaps for the wonderful show last night, I give you heaps of encouragement in continuing to push ahead with your tunes, you guys have got extraordinary gifts to share. I apologise somewhat for my friends getting totally super excited and lovingly harassing you post show, yet in truth it's a testament to the beauty of your music, for next to none of them had ever really encountered a show like it, and all were bowled over, truly. In fact one young lady was a bit too shy to share this with you, yet she was sharing with me that she was so encouraged and inspired by the uniqueness of your music, yet furthermore and most of all by the genuine femininity she perceived in you. Another said that the night was so inspiring that she was hopping on the piano first thing Sunday morning. So again thanks, be greatly encouraged, and know that you've got at least 20+ fans now, who know doubt you'll probably catch some of at shows ahead. Peace to you sister, let's keep sharing the beauty (you with music, and I with paintings), James
