About me:

Hi. I’m “Georgia”. About a year ago I almost threw my baby away, and came close to throwing my own life away as well.

This didn’t happen.

In California there is a safe haven baby law that makes it legal for any parent to voluntarily give up their baby. They don’t ask any questions and they don’t even take your name.

You can do this at fire stations and hospitals, as long as the baby is less than 3 days old. Most states have laws like this… 47 actually, and though there are differences such as how old the baby can be (3 days to 1 year) and where the baby can be safely surrendered, they all try to do the same thing: Save Lives!

I built this site to make sure that girls who find themselves in my situation know what to do. You can check out on this map where it is legal to surrender your baby in your state (I borrowed this from Oprah’s website – thank you Oprah)!

Now, I’m sure lots of you are asking each other, how could this happen? How could I not know that I wasn’t pregnant? What was I thinking?

I guess the simplest answer is I wasn’t thinking.

When I stopped having my period I told myself it was “stress”. When I started gaining weight, I blamed it on binge eating. Though I was “popular” I had no one I felt I could really turn to and confront the changes in my life. For me, the baby wasn’t real until it actually came, and then I panicked as I saw my life as I had imagined it go swirling down the drain.

So, I hope my story can start a lot of us talking honestly about all of the issues related to teen pregnancy and sex.
