   Young Democrats of Georgia's Blurbs
About me:

The Young Democrats of Georgia is the state's official youth arm of the Democratic Party. Members of the organization strive to make a positive difference in the community by working within the political process and upholding the principles of the Democratic Party. The membership base reflects the broad diversity of Georgia and the party, including high school students, college students, young workers, professionals and families.

YDG works to:

  • Elect Democratic Candidates
  • Encourage youth involvement in the Democratic Party
  • Support the ideals of the Democratic Party at all levels of government
  • Instill young people with the values for which the Democratic Party stands
  • Provide young people with the skills and experiences they will need to lead our nation

Young Democrats receive first-hand experience in campaigns and elections, grassroots organizing, fundraising and candidate elective office, just to name a few. Many of the Democratic Party's leaders got their start in politics with the Young Democrats.

To find out more, take a moment to explore our website and see what wonderful opportunities the Young Democrats of Georgia have to offer. Thank you and please visit us again.

Who I'd like to meet:

Individual Membership

The Young Democrats welcome members from all around Georgia including high school and college students. An individual membership is great for young activists who do not live in an area already chartered with the Young Democrats. As an individual member expect to get statewide announcements and updates from YDG about campaign opportunities, policy announcements, local events of interest, and volunteer requests.

All members of the Young Democrats of Georgia must:

  • Be at least 14 and no older than 40 years old
  • Live or go to school in the state of Georgia
  • Fill out the Membership form below with Name, Email, Mailing Address, Phone Number, Birth date.

New Chapters

If you have a group of friends and you want to charter a school or county with YDG, the statewide organization has the following charter process. Becoming an official charter brings your members into the process and lets you become more involved in the Democratic Party of Georgia.

YDG Chartering Process

1. Recruit members who reside in the chartering area. You can charter a county or a school (high school and college). You need five members at a minimum to start. Members must either reside in the chartered area or be a student. You can charter with members who go to school in Georgia but live out of state. Collect the name, address, phone number, and date of birth from your membership and submit this list to YDG.
2. Advertise your meetings to the entire community. All Democratic Party meetings must be open to the public and advertised as such. In order to charter with YDG you must provide a copy of a flyer or meeting announcement that shows you are open to the entire community.
3. Create a constitution or by-laws. YDG has a template to get you started: www.georgiayds.org/samplechapterconstitution.htm.
4. Elect officers and have your Secretary record the meeting minutes. You will need to submit the copy of your minutes along with the rest of the chartering materials. In your membership listing, indicate who is an officer and when he/she was elected.

The next step as a new chapter is to submit your charter packet at a meeting of the YDG Executive Committee. The Executive Committee consists of chapter leaders and YDG officers who meet once every two months around Georgia.

Charter Packet Checklist

  • List of at least five members with name, address, phone number, birth date and if a chapter officer the date elected
  • Copy of your constitution or by-laws
  • Copy of a flyer or announcement advertising your meetings
  • Copy of a meeting’s minutes

Please send electronic copies of your packet to the President. You can present your packet materials in person to the Executive Committee or request the VP Membership present your charter on your behalf.

After you charter with YDG your chapter President/Chairperson will be included in the Executive Committee announcements and meeting notices.

Quick reminder about the 2008 Comedy Against Evil political comedy tour, a fun event for college dems, young democrats, or any progressives looking to support a group, promote a cause, or simply enjoy the company of like-minded folks during this exciting election season.
For more info: Jeff (at) ComedyAgainstEvil (dot) com • http://ComedyAgainstEvil. com • 800.529.2765
Thanks!

Comedy Against Evil is *the* political comedy tour.
A writer for Comedy Central's Indecision2008, winner of the Bill Hicks Spirit Award for Thought Provoking Comedy, cast member of Shoot The Messenger (from the creator of The Daily Show), and author of Harper Collins' "Get Rich Cheating" and the Funny Money column, Jeff Kreisler dissects American politics and culture with passion, absurdity, and hope.
The Comedy Against Evil tour has been featured at the College Democrats National Convention, appeared on Air America and Sirius Radio, supported candidates for President, Congress, and Governor, and made people laugh during caucuses, campaigns, conventions, festivals, rallies, and more. Comedy Against Evil believes humor speaks truth to power and that laughter can save the world.

"A welcome reminder of a time when comedy cut a lot closer to the issues of the day than most comics now dare." - Dallas Morning News
"Truly the best event the Colgate College Democrats have had in my four years as a member." - President, Colgate Democrats
"A highlight." - The New York Times
"Jeff Kreisler and his Comedy Against Evil show were amazing. Jeff's act was thought provoking, edgy, and quite hilarious." - Georgetown University Dems
"Kreisler changes the pace a bit with a slightly demented, extremely animated set that attacks everything..." - San Francisco Chronicle
"'Comedy Against Evil' was the most fun I've ever had at a political event." - Case University Dems

The Midterm elections on November 7th, are less than two months away and the DNC is calling all American Democrats to the polls. Now is the chance to take back Congress and all across the country, Democrats are gathering, sharing ideas, and supporting their local Democrat running for office. From Alaska to Florida, from Hawaii to Maine, Democrats are sending a message to Rush Limbaugh that his pain killer addiction problem, that his excuses are running out. A message to Katherine Harris in Florida that we have not forgotten from the 2000 election. A message to Tom Delay that your corruption has been brought to an end. To Sean Hannity and the rightwing network he works for that their smearing and hatred for the DNC will not work this November. To Former Representative Duke Cunningham and Representative Bob Ney that there is a culture of corruption. To Dick Cheney and Halliburton, that we are taking notes of everything you do and have done. To Karl Rove that he needs to find a new job. To Rummy and the question of where are those WMDs? A question to Condi Rice regarding how that Broadway show was while Hurricane Katrina was hitting New Orleans? And finally a question to President Bush. Can the DNC have that banner of 'Mission Accomplished'? We still do not know what we can do with that banner. Either we can take it to Iraq and have our brave troops sign the banner and then hang it in New York City's Time Square. Why? Just to show how much this small banner is the symbol of the biggest mistake an administration has done in American history. And how the Democrats again came back and cleaned up all the mess the previous administration left behind. Controlling the record breaking deficits, bringing an honest government and an honest congress back to the American people and to make sure not another Tom Delay or Duke Cunningham or Bob Ney never come back to Washington. To protect American rights given to us by the constitution and protecting this country from terrorists who want to harm our communities and our children.. That is the promise the DNC has and will keep.
