How Can There Be Another Day?

Forgotten originals like the smoldering “One Clear Shot” and ache-and-seethe ballad “For Taking My Baby Away” are jewels in Collier’s canon, and his interpretations of Leonard Cohen, Steve Earle and the Rolling Stones are infused with the indomitable spirit we heard even in the Best Kissers’ most defeated tunes and is now reawakened. Don’t ask why; just watch Collier work.

The great work must inevitably be obscure, except to the very few, to those who like the author himself are initiated into the mysteries. Communication then is secondary: it is perpetuation which is important. For this only one good reader is necessary.

"The music business is a cruel and shallow money trench, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There's also a negative side."
- Hunter S. Thompson

When we meet up I think we both should get this tattooed on ourselves.

I've been meaning to tell you about the first time I met you. It was at a Paul Westerberg/School of Fish show. During School of Fish, you were standing next to me, yelling "Play that one GOOD one!" Everyone was cracking up, including Josh Clayton-Felt. I thought "THIS is a guy I can hang with..." I still think of that when I listen to you.

Gerald, you rock the Casbah. My radio was never so happy to be thus comprised by your presence within her, she quivers so deliciously when you sing.

So I JUST realized that you're in Portland now! I was there a few weeks ago and fell in love with the feel of The Virginia Cafe as it felt like The Central, here in Seattle. I'm sad to hear that the Virginia is going to be torn down though. :(
I have a BIG stinkin' crush on Portland. You're so lucky!!!
It's a beautiful city and I MUST get back there soon. Have a great evening, G. -p :)

That voice has taken me through many a road trip....Many a drunken, lost and lonely night....though loves found and so many lost.

That voice that says what we all fear to say.....

That voice....soaked with red wine and tears.

Much love,
