At the age of six Gerald Hinton began singing with the church choir at St. Mary’s Free Will Baptist Church in Apex, NC. Although, he grew up listening to traditional Gospel music his style is nothing of the sort. Gerald began his music career at the age of 13 when he went on the road with Howard Thomas and The Pearly Gates. His music ability stretches beyond Gospel music. At the age of 17, before attending Shaw University, he belonged to an R&B group called The Liberators. After that he led and conducted several choirs in the Apex area. While at Shaw University, Gerald majored in dramatics and carried a minor in music.
In the early 80’s Gerald began singing with Johnny Holloway and The Gospel Jubilees, which led him to the creation of Gerald Hinton and The New Redeemers. In the mid-80’s "From Way Back" was released followed by "Groom Me". The album "Groom Me" produced the hit "It’s Me, O Lord" which has aired on BET, the Word Network, the Dream Network, and other national and local television outlets. In fact, it is the only local video to reach number one on MBC’s Top Gospel Countdown.
Recently, Gerald has completed his latest CD entitled "You Don’t Know How Blessed You Are". It was originally intended to be a solo project but after his successful and stellar connection with music producer Denver Wright, it seemed only appropriate to include the entire group. "You Don’t Know How Blessed You Are" is a collection of works that can stir up movements of the limbs, praises from the heart, and great thoughts from the mind. Gerald brings forth his message of ministry by delivering songs such as the title track, "You Don’t Know How Blessed You Are", "He I Owe" and "Go the Distance. Mr. Hinton’s style is such an incredible blend of traditional and contemporary, it warrants attention from all audiences. It is evident God’s plan and timing for Gerald Hinton are at the forefront.
