Dreams do come true! Geraldine's CD is proof!
This is the story behind the making of it!
Geraldine was born and raised in Springhill, Nova Scotia; home also of Anne
Murray and three time North American Fiddle Champion (64. 65, 66) Johnny
Mooring - Geraldine's uncle.
It was her Nana Mooring who imparted her knowledge of the fiddle to son
Johnny that enabled him to bring home that trophy - and she often picked up
the fiddle to play a tune or two at frequent "musical gatherings" at her
home - in the kitchen - (a kitchen party?)
Geraldine can't remember a time when she wasn't singing ... either in
church, hometown concerts, school choirs, even a trio .. "The Freshettes"
with a cousin, Catherine (Ross) Baldwin and Anne Murray.
College, career and family followed, leaving very little time for music ..
but thoughts of returning to it were never far away. When she retired from
teaching as a Teacher of Deaf and Hard of Hearing Children, Itinerant
Teacher and Consultant for school districts the time came to fulfil the
dream!
Encouraged by family and friends she approached Gary Morris of PrimeTime
Studio in Sussex, NB, and the result is, "One day at a time" - a little
country, a little swing, a little gospel.
Since the release of this CD Geraldine has been involved in a number of
events in NS and NB, She has travelled and performed with Ivan and Vivian
Hicks and the Sussex Avenue Fiddlers, a guest at the Valley Jamborees,
performed at the Saint John Exhibition, guest soloist at the Irving Chapel
in Buctouche, the RCR Reunion in Truro, NS, as well as at various church
services and has spread her message of word and song to diverse groups in
the Moncton area. At present she is also a member of a fun musical group
"Maple Sugar" (fiddles, keyboard, guitar, harmonica, vocals and washboard!)
that entertains at various seniors and veterans nursing care homes.
For the past six summers Geraldine has been a frequent guest (as well as
sound tech!) at her friend Sylvia Campbell and brother Fraser Smith's
bi-weekly "Kitchen Parties" on the Kingston Peninsula. Musicians and
audience members come from miles around for an evening of music and fun!
So ...... Follow your dream.
This life we live is not a rehearsal!
Yesterday is a memory.
Tomorrow is in His hands.
Today is right now! Use what you have been given and share it with others!
