Gerald Prokop is a songwriter and recording artist dedicated to DIY production and publishing. He creates his work under the imprint of Prokiev Projects + Publishing, which includes print zine projects as well as recordings. He performs with a band around the Minneapolis area in venues such as the Nomad World Pub and the Hexagon Bar. He will also be kicking off the release of OPEN with a casual solo tour through the month of September. In the Minneapolis/St. Paul area, his live band consists of keyboardist/vocalist Sarah Wash, drummer Chris Pappas and electronic artist Courie Bishop.
About OPEN
Continuing to venture down a path of multi-textured headphone music from last year's mashup of grunge and folk, Exits + Obstacles, Open is Prokop's most sonically diverse album to date. With Open, Prokop veers slightly into electronic synth + drum machine territory alongside 90s-esque layers of fuzz and delay, throwing in just enough sonic experimentation to set this record comfortably outside of the typical singer-songwriter paradigms. Lyrically the album explores the vague concept of authenticity along personal, interpersonal and political levels. Open includes Prokop's typical experimental packaging. The CD and art booklet are housed inside of inkjet-labeled plastic sleeves.
Press for Exits + Obstacles
Tracks from 2008's Exits + Obstacles have been played on 90.3 KFAI, 89.3 the Current, and Madison's WORT. RIFT magazine has called it "A really good and challenging disc, open to a lot of opinion and definitely worth hearing." (Nelson Heise)
All of Gerald Prokop's projects are available through his own DIY imprint, PROKIEV projects + publishing.
Come grab an advanced copy of the new disc from my fuzzgrunge noisepop band The Sextons, and as always let me know how I can help out with your next tasty record!
Gerald, this is Steve. Can you come in really early tomorrow? I'm going to be getting up early in the morning and we have a lot of important work to get done. Gerald, your music isn't a real job. Be a real man and help me renovate this scrap-filled, filthy tenement into a 4-star hotel! Gerald, we'll be millionaires! I have big plans!
Also, fix my computer!!!
Dammit Gerald you cost me $1,880,000! That's why I can't pay your meager paycheck.

But seriously, you seem to have cultivated a delightfully somber musical style. I wish you well with it.
