Gerhard Graml, geboren in Linz, studierte am
Brucknerkonservatorium und am Konservatorium der Stadt
Wien, wo er 1992 seine Ausbildung mit der
Staatsprüfung für Jazz Bass and Pädagogik abschloss.
Seither arbeitet er als Komponist und Musiker in den
verschiedensten künstlerischen Bereichen. Er schrieb
Musik für Theaterstücke und Filme und wirkte bei CD-,
DVD-, Radio- und Fernsehproduktionen mit. Gerhard
Graml hat auf Tourneen Europa, den Nahen Osten, die
USA und Asien bereist. 1999 dissertierte er an der
Universität Wien zum Thema “Kulturtransfer zwischen
den USA und Österreich”. Von 2000 bis 2005 hat er in
den USA am Portland Conservatory und am Bowdoin
College unterrichtet. Er hat mit so verschiedenen
Künstlern wie der Beatpoetin Ruth Weiss, dem Ensemble
"die reihe", dem Dschungelorchester, Nouvelle Cuisine,
Freddy Quinn und den Jazz Musikern Gary Wittner, Don
Doane, Herb Pomeroy, Don Preston und Thomas Snow
gearbeitet. Darüberhinaus ist er Redakteur des
Musikmagazins Concerto und als Moderator der Ö1

Gerhard Graml studied at the Conservatory of Music in
Vienna/Austria and graduated in 1992 with a degree in
Jazz Bass and Music Education. Since then he has
worked as a composer and musician in various musical
settings. He has written filmscores and contributed to
several CD-productions and TV- & radio specials.
Gerhard Graml has toured Europe, the Middle East and
Asia. He has recorded and performed with such diverse
artists as beat poet Ruth Weiss, the contemporary
music ensemble "die reihe", Jazz artists Don Preston,
Gary Wittner, Herb Pomeroy, Brad Terry, Tom Snow &
numerous others. Gerhard's approach ranges from Jazz,
Fusion to Funk and World Music. He also works as an
editor and writer for music magazines and hosts a
radio show on the Austrian Broadcasting Network ORF.
While maintaining a busy performing schedule, Gerhard
is currently teaching at Vienna Music Schools. He divides his time between Vienna/Austria and
Portland/Maine.
