Welcome to the musical world of Gerry Niewood
Gerry What a wonderful musician and human being you were. I will always cherish the times I spent playing with you and all the nice hangs with you and Bob Sneider. My father and brother Tom were greatly touched by your music and personality as well. You did everything and could do everything great! RIP Gerry
Even the most accomplished players wish they could play like Gerry Niewood. I not only enjoyed listening to Gerry, as a fellow sax player, I studied him. And he made me a better player because of it. I will miss a mentor.
So sad to hear of Gerry's passing. What a wonderful guy and musician. My sympathies to Gerry's family, friends, and fans. Peace ☮ Love ♥ & Light ☼~ Louis
Thank you very much Gerry!.....for the add, and for enriching the world with your beautiful music........My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family and friends.......Al
Gerry was one of a kind. Along with being an incredible musician, he was the consummate gentleman; and yet his most precious gift was shared everywhere, not just on the bandstand. He was always kind, giving and supportive in every way, to everyone that he interacted with. He was and will remain an inspiration on "how one should be" in this world. I concur with Joe G. - the world is less beautiful with him gone.
My deepest condolences to Gurly, Adam, Elizabeth and all the extended family
I just got back from Paris and was shocked to hear this news... Love and Blessings and Prayers are pouring out to your Family and Loved Ones, and all of us who knew Gerry or played with him, or were touched by his music. Since hearing Slow,Hot Wind way back in the 70's, I've loved his music, and glad I got to play with him last April at the Union. I am in shock, and words are not enough. Only Time and Music can begin to heal the grief. Peace to your Soul, Gerry. . . -Pam Fleming
RIP, Gerry! Your Eastman "family" feels a deep loss, as does the music community, and especially your family and close friends. The memory of your wonderful musical talent will live forever. My heartfelt sympathy.
I had the pleasure of working with Gerry on a variety of gigs and recording sessions. I enjoyed the experiences very much. He was such a gentleman on top of being enormously talented.
Gerry was great to work with in any situation. I'll always remember that he was pleasant and enthusiastic regardless of the nature of the gig or what the venue was. He will be greatly missed.
My thoughts and prayers are with you in this difficult time of grief.
With my deepest sympathy, Rich Acciavatti
Gerry and I listening to a playback in the studio, circa 1981.
From the Shakespeare and Hylie Morris days of the 60's thru the years I was always impressed that Gerry recognized and greeted me whenever our paths crossed. This for a guy who just a friend of the band and a fan of the music. I was proud to call him a friend of mine and I will miss him dearly.
I saw Gerry when he toured with Simon & Garfunkel in 1983. I followed his fine saxophone sound back with Chuck Mangione in the 1970's and he will be surely missed by many. He is a very huge influence on why I play the saxophone.
