Click here to buy "Apple of My Eye" right now! This new three-song CD follows on the heels of 2008's "Demo's From a Long Winter." I wanted to take some of the pop sensiblity of "Demo's..." a step further, and so "Apple of My Eye" is an incredibly short song; it's very melodic. And the lyrics, when I wrote them, were a sort of a rhyming excercise that turned out favorably; well, at least I thought so! I guess you can judge for yourself.
Still, I wanted to put forth the message in under 3 minutes, the way we did it on the last album. And I feel like the production values here are much better. It was a fun record to make.
Part of the fun came from having Chris McKenna join the proceedings, recording piano and backing vocals to "Dress Me Like a Fool." Chris McKenna is New Jersey's best-kept secret. He's listed in my top friends on this page; go and listen to Chris! He writes beautiful songs. Period.
Right now you can buy the CD from kunaki.com, the place in Brooklyn that prints and distributes my CD's. It is available NOW at iTunes and Amazon. Thanks for listening! Stay tuned!
BIO
One look at Gerry Stanek’s torn and beaten guitar cases—or the cigarette burn on the headstock of his Fender Jazz bass—tells the story: these instruments belong to a working musician who actually WORKED! There were many bands, including western Pennsylvania favorites The Impostors and major label (Epic Records) cult fave’s The Lost, based in New York City. He even did a tour of duty with Pittsburgh’s hardest working rocker, Norman Nardini.
After playing bass with Asbury Park’s Outcry (Polygram) in the late ’90s, Stanek retired to western Pennsylvania for some good old fashioned log splitting, truck driving adventures. Behind him lay the ashes of more than 3,500 gigs played between 1978 and 1998! After a 9-year hiatus from the music business, Gerry Stanek released "Coal Miner's Sun" in 2007 and "Demo's From a Long Winter" in '08. He received international attention for his single, "I'm in Love With a Girl Named Sarah Palin," which was released in 2008.

"This guy sings it a thousand times better than I do; he's a great singer, a great artist. The only thing I feel bad about: I really wish he had a song about Joe Biden because at this point I think his 15 minutes---well, I think he's at 14 minutes, thirty seconds..."---Thomas J. Kelly, This Show Again
"...a humorous country ballad, 'I’m In Love With A Girl Called Sarah Palin', which treads the line between comedy and admiration so well that I can’t work out if it is serious, satire, or just a very clever move by the singer....my personal favourite is 'They Know My Name' which mixes resigned and downbeat lyrics with 70s sounding backing to produce a song which is suitably plaintive without being over emotive."---Steve Conway, Phantom 105.2, Dublin, Ireland
“Gerry Stanek doesn't hold back. ‘I'm in love with a girl named Sarah Palin’ . . . is the refrain. Listen yourself and head into the weekend with a smile...”---The Irish Times
"F*&$ing brilliant!"---Unnamed Harrisburg Bureaucrat
"For the citizens of Alaska who may have the opportunity of hearing the comical song - Stanek has brought everyone a little bit closer in a tumultuous time, showing people it's okay to lighten up under tough circumstances."---Audrey Brothers-Konior, Star-Courier
