General	Buffalo Comic Con '09! Check it out! Events for this year's Comic Con: • Friday evening 10/23: Reception featuring Spain Rodriguez with brief Q & A in the Poetry/Rare Book Room at the University at Buffalo. This event is free and open to the public. • Saturday 10/24: All day events (from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.) including author talk and book signing with Spain Rodriguez, Alex Simmons’ Kids Comic Con, as well as a wide variety of artists (including Jason Little, Jason Youngbluth and Emil Novak), vendors, movies and information tables. • Kids Comic Con Programs include: Drawing 101 for Kids Hip Hop Hero! Sci-Tech Heroes for Kids Comics in the Classroom (for educators) • Sunday 10/25: The traditional Buffalo Comic Con will take place at the Buffalo Marriott and will feature all the traditional Comic Con-type events (for an idea of typical events, check out last year’s Comic Con website) • All events on Saturday will take place at Buffalo and Erie County Public Library’s Central Library.

About me:

What are Graphic Novels?

"Graphic Novel" is a format, ~~not a genre.~~ Graphic novels can be fiction, non-fiction, history, fantasy, or anything in-between!

Graphic novels are similar to comic books because they use sequential art to tell a story. Unlike comic books, graphic novels are generally stand-alone stories with more complex plots. Collections of short stories that have been previously published as individual comic books are also considered graphic novels.

What is Get Graphic?

Get Graphic: The World in Words and Pictures is a community-wide two year project designed to introduce teens, parents, librarians and teachers to the exciting and extremely popular literary format of graphic novels. All sorts of fun and informative events will be held throughout Western New York including noted graphic novel author visits and graphic novel design workshops. Teens will be inspired to write their own stories in the graphic novel format and their pages will be included in a book to be published in 2009.

Truly a community project, partners include the Buffalo & Erie County Public Library, the Nioga Library System, UB Libraries, UB Department of Library and Information Studies, the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, The Buffalo News Next Magazine, Erie I Boces School Library System, Hein Publishing, Buffalo Public Schools Library System and WBFO radio.
