If you have a story to tell, this is your moment. So grab it!
All teens are welcome to tell us a story in graphic novel format! Submit your pages to Get Graphic! and see your name and creation in a published book!
DUE DATE: FEBRUARY 2, 2009
Guidelines for submission:
• The story must be about you or your family. Stories must be appropriate for all audiences.
• Submission must not exceed two pages (see below)
• Drawings must be in black and white – Sharpie pen or ink will produce the best results. Avoid grays. Images will be reduced to a 10 x 7 book size, so small or fine detail may be lost.
• Drawings may be in portrait or landscape format and should not exceed eight panels on a page, again because detail may be lost.
• The first panel must include the title of the story and your name.
• Submit your original artwork
• All submissions are due by Monday, February 2, 2009. Submissions may be hand delivered to the Central Library,

About me:
What are Graphic Novels?
"Graphic Novel" is a format, not a genre. Graphic novels can be fiction, non-fiction, history, fantasy, or anything in-between!
Graphic novels are similar to comic books because they use sequential art to tell a story. Unlike comic books, graphic novels are generally stand-alone stories with more complex plots. Collections of short stories that have been previously published as individual comic books are also considered graphic novels.
What is Get Graphic?
Get Graphic: The World in Words and Pictures is a community-wide two year project designed to introduce teens, parents, librarians and teachers to the exciting and extremely popular literary format of graphic novels. All sorts of fun and informative events will be held throughout Western New York including noted graphic novel author visits and graphic novel design workshops. Teens will be inspired to write their own stories in the graphic novel format and their pages will be included in a book to be published in 2009.
Truly a community project, partners include the Buffalo & Erie County Public Library, the Nioga Library System, UB Libraries, UB Department of Library and Information Studies, the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, The Buffalo News Next Magazine, Erie I Boces School Library System, Hein Publishing, Buffalo Public Schools Library System and WBFO radio.

This project was made possible in part by a Family Literacy Library Services grant from the New York State Library, New York State Education Department.
