My writing, quotes, and other random stuff:
How you effect your local music scene by not coming to shows
Before I get started, let me say that I put a lot of thought into whether I should even write this article. At first I was worried about how people would take it and how they would react to me. After thinking about it for a while, I honestly don't care. Some may be glad that I wrote it and others may hate me for it, but it doesn't matter to me either way. This is how I feel and it needs to be said.
First off by not coming shows you effect the venues. If the venues don't make money because you aren't coming out to shows, they can't put on as many shows and may eventually have to close down. This also makes it harder on the bands because they have less venues to play at.
Secondly, you effect the bands because other than them not having as many venues to play at, they aren't making money, or getting the exposure that a lot of them deserve. Therefore, a lot of bands are going to stop playing show all together.
Third, I hear all these people that say they are huge music fans. Yet, in the couple of months that I have been running my page, I have yet to see a venue packed out for a local show. Most local shows aren't that expensive, so the whole "I don't have the money" excuse doesn't cut it.I'm not saying that you should come to every singe show, but if you were to come out once every couple of weeks or even once a month it would have a huge impact on the scece. It would help the venues stay in business, give bands more choices of venues to play, and allow venues to put on bigger, better shows.
Finally, I would like to thank the people that do support local music and seriously urge the people that aren't coming out to shows at all to please start coming out to at least one or two shows a month. Most of the bands that I have had the pleasure to talk to are very nice and down to earth people. They actually take the time to hang out and talk to people. So, not only are you coming to see a show, but you could possibly meet some new and interesting people. Remember this simple equation. Venues + Bands - You = NO SCENE!!! With that being said, I don't ever want to hear "There isn't anything to do around here" if the scene dies out. It would be your fault for not supporting it when it was around. If you support your scene it will support you.

What Music is to Me
To me music is life. Music is in my opinion the most powerful thing in this world. Music can make you happy and it can make you depressed. It can be used to suppress anger, set the mood, remember the good times, and forget about the bad times. A lot of the time it can do more than one of these things at the same time. Music is an art form unlike any other. Without seeing a single thing, someone can connect with you on an emotional level and make you feel what they were feeling when they wrote the song. A lot of the times we have felt the same way in our own lives and can understand how that person felt. I couldn't imagine the world without music nor do I want to. What a dark place this world would be without it. Music has touched peoples lives at their worst moments. It has changed lives, made people realize the mistakes they have made in life, love, faith, and the purpose of all three. Music has also saved lives. I've heard lots of stories about people saying that they were headed down a path of self destruction, even to the worst things imaginable and they heard a song that touched them deeply and made them realize that things would get better. Music truly is the soundtrack to life. That's what music is to me.

"There is something very wonderful about music. Words are wonderful enough; but music is even more wonderful. It speaks not to our thoughts as words do; it speaks through our hearts and spirits, to the very core and root of our souls. Music soothes us, stirs us up, it puts noble feelings in us, it can make us cringe; and it can melt us to tears; and yet we have no idea how. It is a language by itself, just as perfect in its ways as speech, as words, just as divine, just as blessed."
