LOPAZZ & CASIO CASINO - 'AMBIENT FILM THEMES VOL.1'
You probably know Lopazz best for his dancefloor-friendly releases on Get Physical, but the kaleidoscopic 2007 album Kook Kook showed that the Berlin-based producer’s mercurial talent extended far beyond the club. Now Lopazz, real name Stefan Eichinger, brings you "Ambient Film Themes Vol. 1", a showcase of the film and documentary music that he has composed and produced over the past ten years with Steffen ‘Casio Casino’ Neuert.
Lopazz’s relationship with film is long-running and deep-seated; he and Casio Casino have worked on around 45 soundtracks to date, always trying different approaches and going the extra mile to make them special – whether recording with a Chinese orchestra in Macao or exploring the possibilities of new-fangled gadgets like the Yamaha Tenori-On!
Lopazz..studio and field-recording prowess combining with a command of more traditional and analogue instrumentation as well as latter-day digital techniques, he can conjure a whole range of musical moods – and "Ambient Film Themes Vol. 1" captures the breadth and acuity of that vision.
If there is a unifying theme to the disparate music that comprises this album, it’s one of playfulness coupled with expansive, zen-like calm. Lopazz and Casio Casino realised the power and scope of these tracks when they played them live at the Pelourinho Plaza in Salvador (being one of only a handful of non-samba artists ever to have played there).

DAMIAN LAZARUS - SMOKE THE MONSTER OUT
Londoner Lazarus, now based in L.A., is best known for founding the Crosstown Rebels label and helping shape the sound of contemporary techno in his twin roles as taste-making A&R and globally renowned DJ. Having been asked on countless occasions when he would step out from behind the decks and into the producer’s chair, Lazarus has finally capitulated – and the results are far more unusual and engaging than what anyone could have imagined.
It would have been easy, or at least expected, for Lazarus to make a strictly instrumental, dancefloor-oriented album, perhaps enlisting the help of “celebrity” vocalists to flesh it out – but Smoke The Monster Out is a far more ambitious and considered project than that. First up, it really is an album, a rangy and cleverly paced narrative inspired chiefly by the dancefloor’s play of darkness and light, but also classic love songs and emotive, gut-wrenching pop music old and new.
Though Lazarus’s grounding in house and techno is apparent throughout, this record is really a song-based affair, full of unusual acoustic instrumentation and delicately wrought arrangements, which Lazarus wrote with collaborator Arthur Jeffes - son of the Penguin Café Orchestra’s Simon Jeffes. The Rebels boss has taken a long view of his life as a music-lover, drawing on older influences as diverse as Photek, Jeff Buckley and Bjork, taking their essence and suffusing it with the twisted dancefloor alchemy we associate with his DJ sets. Perhaps most significantly, not to mention surprisingly, Lazarus himself sings on several of the album’s tracks, investing his songs with his own distinct personality and quiet expressiveness. This is Damian Lazarus as you’ve never heard him before.

GPMCD030 - DJ T. - THE INNER JUKEBOX - OUT NOW!!!!!
Get Physical co-founder DJ T. returns with his second album, The Inner Jukebox, a singular and accomplished set that reflects its maker’s ongoing interest in rigorously re-inventing classic sounds for modern ears and dancefloors.
After four years of 12” releases and collaborative experiments, DJ T.’s full-length follow-up to 2005‘s Boogie Playground is upon us. While Boogie Playground was an exploration of T.’s 70s and 80s influences, a melting-pot of styles that touched upon electro, disco, italo and funk, The Inner Jukebox draws inspiration from the 90s and is a more focussed adventure – it’s T.’s vision of house music as it should be. So much “house” around right now is really just glorified minimal techno, vibe-killing in its meticulousness; by contrast, the tracks which comprise The Inner Jukebox are bold, vivid, expressive. They’re cerebral and carefully crafted, yes, but more importantly they have a bounce and a sexiness to them. T. has always sought to make proper, no-nonsense dance music with real groove at its heart - and The Inner Jukebox finds him fully realizing that ambition.

'The Ooh' is a hypnotic relay race of instruments. Introduced by the rapid plucking of an upright bass before the baton is passed off to the piano player who keeps the note progression intact before handing it off to the trumpet player who leads us into an elevating and soaring gyration of all 3 while continuously filtering, warping and modulating to the finish line.
