Ghalia Benali is a Tunisian singer based in Brussels, Belgium and with a strong connection to India.
Ghalia’s fluid voice and compositional ambitions absorb a full circle of wide influences from Arabic folk and jazz traditions to contemporary chillout and Indian Classical knowledge.
Always surprising and restless by nature, Ghalia’s work is endlessly inventive and can shift seamlessly between genres and cultural traditions with an individuality devoid of fear or contrivance.
She uses classical arab language, the language of alchemy, when a word reveals its numerous sides to whom understand it.
Beyond the verb, comes her compositional musicality that bewitches the dreamer and approach Shaekespearian universality.
Ghalia, on stage in this world, sings esoteric verbs with a sensual voice, dances the world, design visuals and shift seamlessly between genres and cultural traditions while reinventing herself endlessly.
Ghalia’s current project include:
Romeo & Leila : a ReOriental Fairytale featuring occidental and oriental classical musicians
Ghalia sings Om Kalthoum : a rare rendition of Om Kalthoum
Al Palna : Secret Society for New Vedic Rituals
As of June 2009, Ghalia is also currently working with The Spy from Cairo on some dance tracks and boards on a catalysing year of unconventional and highly surprising musical projects!!

Born Kali before our eres, Sublimation woman, Goddess of Time and Tantric Guru, she initiated Dance forms while pagean rituals and inspired the most powerful vedic chants. She will remain in the collective unconscious of a people for eternity
Mondaine Princess always, often a staggering singer, sometime a dark actress, a pleasant romantical stylist, but especially a daily muse,
G h a l i a, reappeared over times, slowly accumulating rare knowledges and travelling the vast universe of love where she lost her heart while
comparing in vain the Masters and Poets as Adib Dayik or Shri Aurobindo.
Once born on November 1918 on a boat between Izmir and Beirut, she died drowned. On July 14th 1944, her car lost control and ended up in the Nile. She was 26.
Sort of a Mata Hari and a Blues singer, double agent, rumours circulated for a long time about Germans and Brittish
( but not about de Gaule, who was very in love ... ) to cover a crime by an accident. Her death has put a short on the ere of burlesque entertainment that filled the hedonism of expatriates in the legendary icons of Oriental luxury.
From oenuchs sources, rumours were spread again from Java to Bali describing fantasy details of voluptuous frolics lead by a Nymph dancer
at the Harem of the Balinese Court.
In another life, she would even study exact sciences and would be married four times including twice to her cousin Selim.
Also, she would admit to have acted as a performing monkey on the shoulder of some new age hawker in Baja California.
G h a l i a, now a Zarzissian, visit us today to tell her nostalgia of times long past. She uses classical arab language, the language of alchemy, when a word reveals its numerous sides to whom understand and beyond the verb,
comes her musicality and compositional ambitions that bewitches the dreamer and approach Shaekespearian universality.

This music is indeed out of dreams! So very versatile talent (not only the artwork) Sharia Orabi sounds surprisingly Zappaesque, Ana Arabi is very catchy though the more "traditional" things (Hanine & Om Kalthoum) have the 1001 depths... Mais c'que j'en dis, hein... Bravo ! Vive la Tunisie expatriée !
