Hailing originally from Ann Arbor Michigan, the band Ghettobillies have seen and done it all. Reverend C. Cobb (AKA: Robbie Conaway) and Pope D' Licious (AKA: Derek Kramer) moved to Chicago to seek out better opportunities for their band. From working the mean streets of Chicago as bike messengers to working the old, bitchy women of advertising on Lasalle street with massage oil, the GB's have earned their rightful place as a band that has stood the test of time. Except perhaps for a brief stint in Bogota Columbia where one of them worked as a gun runner for Juan Garcia Abrego (an infamous South American drug cartel who smuggled some of the largest shipments of pure Columbian snow into North America), touring nonstop over the past 6 years has brought this band to a skill level and maturity rarely seen on the local level anymore. Once the 5th and final drummer, Holy Maloney (AKA: John Maloney), joined the not so well known supergroup back in 2002 and rythm section "life partner" and child prodigy bassist Bong (AKA: Matthew Longbons) jumped on the preverbial bandwagon, the circle of ridiculousness was complete. Masters in each of their chosen fields, the band Ghettobillies knew no musical boundaries and in the words of one famous writer from Rolling Stone magazine, "...Those guys play whatever the hell they want!...It's ridiculous."
And so it is.
Ridiculous that a band might play 2 songs that don't sound exactly the same. And ridiculous that they make a conscious effort not to gear their entire image, lyrics and sound towards 1 specific microcosm of teenage subculture. Ridiculous that they refuse to bow to the obvious might and glory that is the magnificent recording industry. Utterly ridiculous that they continue on their hopeless quest of recognition, quality, and artistic integrity.
Since that time, the band Ghettobillies have tirelessly toured all over the midwest, east coast and United Kingdom and succeeded in creating their own enormous underground cult following without the help of any record labels, supergroup managers, well known promoters, or really anyone actually legitimately involved in the music industry at all. Though they have always sought out the help of said agencies and companies, they have mostly been ignored by every major and independent record label that exists from time immortal and most likely will continue to be. But "why?" you might ask-
Why do these men of genius not receive what seems to be so rightfully theirs? Why is the world so unfair to men who work so hard and deliver so much to so many?
Let’s rally for Reggie! On August 23, a benefit will be held for Jerald (Reggie) Harper, at the Grand Haven Eagles #925, located at 20 North 2nd Street Grand Haven, MI. Any donation is welcome for this benefit. We will host four bands, catered food, a silent auction and a 50/50 raffle.

Did you know, that in 2007, of the 1.4 million new cancer cases reported in the United States, more than 48,000 new cases of cancer were reported in Michigan? This is 3.5% of all new cancer cases – clearly a staggering statistic, but that’s only one side of the story.
When the diagnosis of cancer is made, it isn’t just the cancer patient who is affected. Cancer affects the whole family. Our friend, a family in our community, is in desperate need of our support to help win the fight of their lives--the family of Jerald (Reggie) Harper. Reggie has been diagnosed with Squamous Cell Carcinoma Stage IV, (left base of tongue cancer). After seven weeks of intense chemotherapy and radiation at the U of M Medical Center, Reggie is looking for an “all clear” on August 4th.
If you’ve never met Reggie, it’s time! Many refer to him as “Crazy Fun”, with a heart of gold. He is the father of three beautiful daughters: Catrina, a student at U of M; Erin, a future student at Grand Valley State University; and Cassidy, a sophomore at Grand Haven High School. In addition to the value he places on education with his own family, he has extended this value through his passion from when he was a teacher and coach at both Grand Haven and Fruitport High Schools. Reggie has mentored many of our community youth in school, on the track and in the water. Surfing is his all time favorite hobby! Since retiring as a teacher, Reggie is currently employed with Skyway at the Muskegon Airport. Due to time off work for medical treatment and time to heal, the Harper family is facing some financial strife.
As we refer to it, Reggie was given a “s#!t sandwich”! Once we absorbed this overwhelming blow, we had many days to ponder…what can we do to help Reggie? So, we decided to do what we do best…throw a party! This benefit will be held in Reggie’s honor and we hope to raise some money at the same time!
