DJ Bzerk (aka Rick Adams) has seen the ever-changing face of electronic and hip-hop music throughout the years. First introduced to hip hop at the young age of 9 yrs. old with the song "White Lines" by Grandmaster Flash and the Furious 5, but it was the track "Egypt Egypt" by L.A. artist Egyptian Lover that set the stage for Bzerk.
Bzerk’s exposure to music stretches as far back as his birth. His mother was a pianist who also started at a very young age and played live radio broadcasts beginning at age of 8 yrs. old. Other members of his family also played various instruments and sang so it came natural to Bzerk to express himself through music.
Bzerk’s first musical ventures began at the age of ten with djing and mixtape creation. Taking the age factor into consideration, his music gear setup was considerably modest. However Bzerk’s persistence prevailed and his love for music pushed him to acquire equipment that was sufficient in satisfying his musical desires. Throughout his teens, Bzerk (then known as Da Siskow Kid) worked on various projects with fellow hip hop acquaintances including tracks used in school talent show performances.
In addition to hip-hop, he also had a love for electronic music and found himself involved in the early techno-acid scene in the late 80’s, early 90’s. Under the DJ name, Bzerk(which was also his graffiti name), Bzerk began to make a reputation for himself by spinning at local raves and house parties. Although DJing was an excellent form of musical expression , it simply wasn’t enough. With drum machine and sampler at hand, he began to assemble tracks of his own. The first project that developed from his excursions was a techno-bass album titled "Frequencies".
Throughout the remainder of the 90’s, Bzerk worked with various hip hop projects with Inland Empire artists ABO(Abstract Originals), Poetic Eclectics, UnderGround Kings as well as solo projects. Unfortunately, Bzerks day job interfered with music, consuming time, energy and his drive to forge ahead. He soon found himself with a cache of unfinished projects. However, in 1998, a close friend that happened to be involved with local party promotions encouraged him to perform at his venues. Bzerk agreed and once again began to make a name for himself in the scene.
Since then, Bzerk has worked on crafting his own style of hip hop and electronic music and today simply focuses on writing music that reflects his personal moods and ideas rather than trying to fit into a particular genre. Utilizing elements of electro, drum and bass, hip-hop and ambient, to name a few, Bzerk’s ultimate goal is to create music that people can enjoy and or relate to.
