About me: i am a comic of no standing ,who has plied his trade all round the world.inverness to cape town and galway to china and all points in between .and what do other peaple think about me Saw Martin at the Comedy Cafe last week. Superb compere, and had to fill in for the second comic when she 'died' on the stage. Very funny and made some merchant bankers look like merchant bankers. Alan Oliver 15.12.03
Martin Davis is the best compere I have ever seen. Anthony Miller
The star of the evening, for my money, was compere Martin Davis, a cockney stuffed with mercurial Welsh genes (surely?), who had abrasive wit, tons of energy and an unparalleled ability to talk dirty without causing too much offence - The Mercury

25.02.05Went to my first ever live comedy show at Up The Creek in Maidstone. Martin was fantastic I was crying with laughter. LB 10.05.04
saw him in Belguim at the comedy night in Geel. I found it hilarious. He was the best one off all the comedians that night Dirk De Ceuster 30.09.03
Saw Martin at the Comedy Cafe in April and his performance was superb and that's without taking into account the extra 30 minutes at the end of the night Mark 18.06.06
What a genius. Although he took the piss out of me, he was the best act of the night. Top talent Ken 21.05.06
Saw Martin at the Comedy Cafe last week. A great comedian and everyone there thoroughly enjoyed the act, and best one of the night. Thank you Comedy Cafe for bowing to audience demands and letting him back on for another 30 minutes.... a treat Mario Pavlou 21.04.06
Best on the bill on Saturday night. Funny as f*ck. Came on, took control and didn't let go until the end. Even the bits which were obviously staples (the "scissors paper stone" act) were excellent. Handled heckles with the friendliest of barbs and finished on a high... or so we thought. Ten minutes after the gig ended he came back on to make a house announcement and got clapped into doing another 15 minutes of improv to the stragglers. This was as good, if not better, than his main act. Believe the hype - it's not just his hairdresser that's got a good sense of humour. Graeme 16.04.06
I'm amazed that anyone has anything negative to say about this guy. As a new comic he made me feel somewhat inadequate, but then helped with somegood constructive criticism. The man is a genius Gerry Kyei 02.12.03
Big fan of Martin. He has great wit and can manage even the most ruthless crowd. Jennee 03.02.04
Saw Martin at Up the Creek, Greenwich. He was the funniest comedian on that night, his chats with the audience are totally brilliant Karen 07.01.04
Saw him at my student union at UCCA and he went down a treat. Complete improvisation because of all the banter and heckling. He had everyone in stitches including himself. Emme Hastings 08.12.05
His skill in warming up the chilliest rooms and turning the stoniest punters into soft putty in his hands makes Martin Davis the comics favourite MC. With enough nervous energy to power a small city, Martin is the Jolt Cola of the circuit. Advice would be: connect up the microphone, shout "Clear" and stand well back -
Electric, sharp, with a sympathetic face that looks like it was carved by a Polynesian shaman Iain Macdonald, Cape Argus - Iain Macdonald, Cape Argus
Looking like some bizarre marionette tug-of-love struggle between Gerry and Sylvia Anderson, Martin Davis skids and bounces across the stage, strung up and tugged around by unknown forces, firing off a relentless rapid-fire assault that hits every corner of the room and kills 100% of all known hecklers stone dead. Going where mere joke-tellers fear to tread with his characteristic kamikaze bravado ("Go on, heckle me!") he walks the razor edge of audience participation, daring them to pick him off it. -
Call most people 'a parrot-faced twat' and you might expect a punch in the throat. Martin Davis puts it on his CV.
For this lively comic's distinctive features are perhaps his greatest asset - and certainly the source for plenty of material. Visually, at least, you could say he was born to be a comic.
Thankfully, though, Davis's talents go more than a little further than looking a bit odd. For, as well as 'twat', the Viz reviewer his biography quotes also, and quite rightly, used the adjective 'hilarious'.
Objectively, it's a little hard to see why, but he is. He has a reluctance to stick to material and an even bigger dread of structure. Instead, he trades sometimes quite hard-edged banter with the audience - his attention flipping from table to table, selecting likely punters to be on the receiving a well-aimed quip.
Individually, each line doesn't really amount to much. But Davis's brilliant talent is in whisking all these inconsequential exchanges into an electrified atmosphere, charged with laughter.
He's a natural born compere - though his schtick works pretty well as a stand-alone set, too. He makes it look so easy - and there cannot be a much more difficult achievement than that.
On the ball, Davis, a consummate professional, never dies. - Cape Times, 2000
Davis is good, very good and, as host, held the show together - Daily Mirror
