About the name "Ghost Ghost"
The name Ghost Ghost has nothing to do with the supernatural and everything to do with our understanding of music and the nature of music itself. Music is a ghost in the sense that it is intangible. It as a mental construction of the listener -- an imaginary composition that relies upon a listener's ability to dream -- to construct an imaginary whole out of what is essentially no more than a complex series of individual sound events separated by time. You can never hold, touch, taste, or freeze a song in time. A song is almost there. Like your feeling for or impression of someone after they have left the room. Like your memories of how they smelled, what they looked like, what they said. Now put lyrics to a song and tell a story. That is meaning inscribed upon a ghost. A ghost ghost, if you will. Like the memory of something that is no longer present. Or the idea or dream of something that never was. Songs are ghosted scraps of ghost feelings and thoughts. Any piece of music, any piece of art plays this same game of illusion and suggestion. Art is a shadow of life, a shade, a ghost.
If you want to take the idea one step further then music is the perfect analogy for life. Our lives, our memories, our belief in self, are all nothing more than a mental construction of actions separated in space and time or imagination. We cherish those moments that have passed and have yet to come. Those make us who we are. Someday the impression of them in others will make them what they were. It is existentialism with a hopeful air. It is nostalgia for moments we haven't had yet. We make ourselves into who we dream we are by investing and believing, loving and embracing, intangibles. We are ghost ghosts. We are hardly here, and then we pass on.
Hey boys. Glad to see you're working. The EP is great. I do miss the days of joining forces with Kevlar to bore the apathetic masses in Midd... Mahalo.
Guys, Great show last night. We were in an out of the room, but it sounded great. Thanks for getting some people into the room for us! We were a sorry headliner... I'll give the disc a listen today!
