Evoking the melodic composition of Spoon, the genre-defiance of TV on the Radio, and the inventiveness of Broken Social Scene, Ghost Lobby draws on a variety of influences to create a unique sound that integrates soulful cadences, infectious pop hooks, and unusual song structures. Their music is both inviting and warmly challenging.
Much of Ghost Lobby's appeal derives from the way they bridge a variety of backgrounds and styles to create a cohesive unit. Tara Ellis, who got her start in the Seattle scene behind a drum kit, combines precise rhythmic guitar playing with her sultry vocal delivery to help forge a dialogue between the music and the audience. Fritz Martin, bassist and backing vocalist, began in the Midwest hardcore scene before branching into blues and funk. Bill Harms ..s, with a predominately blues background, believes the role of keys in rock is supporting rather than structural – a philosophy that sings through in the fluidity and ambiance of his playing. Completing the line up is Bob Zammit on drums, whose explosive style and focus can be attributed to his experiences in pop punk and drum corps. His contributions ground the band and consistently drive the music forward. This arrangement makes for a compelling and engaging listening experience – four seemingly mismatched pieces that fit together perfectly.
The band has played many notable Seattle venues including Neumos, The Crocodile Café, and The High Dive. Their upcoming release, March, [engineered by Scott Colburn (Animal Collective, Arcade Fire, Mudhoney,)]
