Bits of Country/American Folk/Brit-Folk and blues combine to make up the Ghost of a Dog sound. They’ve been described as “Calexico fronted by a Country Kate Bush”, and draw their influences from a wide range of genres, but all underpinned by their collective love of acoustic based music & 70’s songwriters such as Joni Mitchell & Neil Young and with a liberal helping of Lone Justice style balls.
Formed in Monmouth on the South Wales borders in 2006, initially as an offshoot from Welsh folk band “wild welsh women”, Ghost of a Dog has quickly become the main focus of activities, and aim to expand their gig diary and extend their musical boundaries over the next 12 months.
One of the driving forces behind the band is quality songwriting, and song subjects range from werewolves to Mexican bandits on the streets of Cardiff – i.e. not the regular “he loves her” malarkey.
They have produced a 3 track EP (end of last year), and are starting recording of their 1st album THIS WEEKEND!
This month we have Regina Spektor with the theme to the film Prince Caspian (but don’t let that put you off, it is really rather wonderful), Mermaid Skeletons with a great song that’s worth it for the chorus alone, the Agnostic Mountain Gospel Choir, who are as good as their name if not more so and finally the legendary Chip Taylor with the thought-provoking Former American Soldier. Great listening, and if you like the tracks, buy the albums!

Went to the garway moon last night and have organised another music lounge for the 2nd of may if you are interested. I see that you are playing dates either side of it so no worries if you cant make it as you must have homes to go to at some point. But your always welcome in the moon.
