Influences
Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd, Stone Temple Pilots, Radiohead, so many more i dare not name them all here. Below I've added links to a couple of projects we've been working on more recently; above is a link to 'Daylight Savings Account' and below is a link to 'Ghost of Rodeo'
Beginning in around July of 2002, David, Nate, Matt and Adam began rehearsing original music in the cozy confines of Matt's Mother's basement in Dubuque, Iowa, where all four were born and raised within a few miles of each other, David and Adam having been next door neighbors since childhood, and Matt and Nate living merely miles away.//
David's hero and guiding light, beyond a shadow of a doubt and since I can remember, has always been Jimi Hendrix, despite the efforts of such guitar gods as Jimmy Page and David Gilmour to steal the place of honor away; David may stray but he'll never turn away from the influence of the Experience, and you will surely hear the impressions left by not only Jimi, but much of the classic 1960's sound, in the core of David's compositions.//
Nate's influences are far too varied to even consider listing in full, but I would put Wilco and Pearl Jam near the top of his mind. Nate is one of those individuals who is simply good at anything and everything he makes even a fledgling attempt at and through time has conquered the bass, the guitar, the drums, the keys, and certainly anything thing else he touches for a minute or two which provides sound to this reality.//
Matt's drum-work is amazing in the sense of its creativity and imagination and especially when taking into account the fact that Matt was originally a second guitarist in the band. One brave day he volunteered for the position until we could find another compatible soul for the job. Matt brought a very refined musical grasp to the group and contributed in far more than ways than percussively alone. His fresh approach on the drums certainly brought out the complete spectrum of imagination in the ensemble.//
Enter Mike Nolan : 2004. Once Mike joined the group as the drummer, Matt was free to contribute on the more sonic level of his instrument of choice. Mike entered the picture through Nate's ties in Iowa City where they were students at U of I. Nolan brought a crisp and clean new style to the drums that lent itself well to our live performances and the band began to make a humble name for itself in Eastern Iowa.//
I primarily focused my energy to vocals in this band, though I did play the acoustic live every so often and even got a lick of studio action on Dead Milk ;) with the plan that I would eventually play piano in the group. //
Alas as the timetable of life laid down its law on the members of the band, Nate took a job in KC, I stayed here in Cedar Rapids with my family to play mellow melodies for Iowans, David moved to Dubuque from UNI and attained a vibrational level which rendered him invisible to all but a few, Matt started competing in The World's Strongest Man competitions, and Mike we killed and ate on tour in Greenland when our tour-mopeds (Vespa's actually) simultaneously broke down due to the freezing climate at altitude in the Greenlandian Mountains. We weren't really all that hungry, it just seemed like the right thing to do at the time.//
Since the unraveling of the full band with Nate's move to Kansas City, David and I have pressed on in the form of Daylight Savings Account along with Jesse Luke on Bass/Cello and (as yet) a carousel of percussive people including Adam Zeimet and Jeff Gonzalez. We perform frequently in and around the region and would love to see you out at a show sometime, just follow the link here to see when we'll next be entering your neck of the woods:
