Ghostwood Shanks were a band with a constantly changing line up of anything from one to five people with live show that featured duelling badgers, dinosaurs and raucous rock in the vein of the early 90s American college rock movement. The line up featured many notable players from the Chelmsford live music scene but at its core were Paul Dale, Kat Howchen, Tim Hobart, Steve Couldrey and Ricardo de Ritis.
Beginning in 2005 as a bedroom recording project, 2006 saw Ghostwood Shanks take their first steps into the live arena. The band went on to play venues such as Bitterscene night at The Bassment, The Cramphorn Theatre, Barhouse and become one of the house bands at the late great Shakey’s venue. In addition to this the band received radio time from Phenoix FM and Kooba Radio as well as coverage in the Essex Chronicle and Panic Magazine. Their music also featured in The Peculiarity Lounge show “Moon Gal”.
Around March 2009 things got tough and no one seemed to have it in their hearts to continue. No one has fallen out and there are new projects on the cards including the ever-present electro-grunge-??? stylings of Teen Death Squad. Paul, Tim and Kat have recently reunited with Stuart Sale of Bean Stalk and Black Lodge Cooper fame for an as of yet untitled project.
