Gifted Voices of Praise was started in October 2006 by musician Marlin Caruthers. Born and raised in Chicago, Caruthers attended Greater Salem M.B.C., where he gained 13 years of experience playing the piano by ear. After being a member of the choir at Greater Salem, and developing his talents, Marlin decided he wanted to take them further and try something different. "I wanted us to have a different sound and not just sing hip hop gospel. I wanted us to be able to sing it all," says Caruthers. With this thought GVOP was born! Marlin began gathering members from anywhere he could. At the first rehearsal, he was able to produce 10. Still growing, GVOP currently has 16 members, but hopes to someday have more than 50. Gifted Voices of Praise had their first concert in January of 2008 where they definately sent up the praises, and brought God into the building. Some of GVOP's other accomplishments include a recently released demo entitled "You Brought Me Out." Caruthers hopes for the choir to complete an entire CD, and with talented members, and even more talented musicians backing him, there's definately a bright future ahead!
