Acousticfest -Manchester's premier Acoustic showcase are organising a special all day live music festival in aid of MAG. The festival takes places on the United Nations World Peace Day - Sunday 21 September at m19 bar (www.m19bar.com) in Levenshulme, Manchester.

Levenshulme joins in Global celebration for World Peace Day

Fresh from its success in staging the UK’s first three day Bob Dylan festival, M19 bar in Levenshulme will once again be thrust again in the media spotlight when it stages a special concert called ‘Gig For Peace’ to mark World Peace Day, on Sunday 21 September. They will join forces with an estimated 100 million people in 192 countries who last year marked this global occasion. Events will take place all over the world with London staging a special concert at the Royal Albert Hall with the likes of Annie Lennox and Bryan Adams.

Levenshulme has attracted musicians from as far away as Calgary in Canada they will be coming together on the day to mark the United Nations designated World Peace Day. Twenty one acts will play the special acousticfest afternoon starting at 12 noon. The event is staged in the bar’s first floor acoustic room and unplugged sessions in the aptly named ‘John Lennon – Peace room’, which is based on Johns’ memorial in New York’s Central Park.

The event is helping to raise funds and awareness for the Manchester branch of MAG (Mines Advisory Group) an organisation who clear mines in war torn areas. It also coincides with the start of Manchester University’s ‘Fresher’s week’ and is supported by the University’s Amnesty Society.

Chris Greave from Canadian band ‘Claymore’ said “We can not wait to meet up with other musicians from around the world to celebrate World Peace Day”.

Manchester musician ‘Joni Fuller’ who has supported Phil Collins on a world tour and has made numerous TV appearances including one recently on the BBC breakfast said “m19 always has a great atmosphere and I am really looking forward celebrating World Peace Day, the line up of acts looks like being a great afternoon of live music.”

Twenty one year old Acousticfest promoter James Hennigan said “We are really looking forward to the afternoon of Acoustic music, it great to be involved in such a global event and to do our own little bit to mark the occasion in Manchester. Its great to be sharing such a worldwide moment with the likes of Annie Lennox, while our tickets have been kept to £3 in advance London’s concert is £30 to £100. ”

David Franks: Walkabouts Verse

May 30 2009 4:25 PM

(Hi: enjoyed my visit.)

After you've finished here, you may like to hear this poem sung on myspace...

Poem 2 of 230, WalkaboutsVerse
(please see my blog):
WALKABOUT WITH MY PEN

Once drove an old sedan, up north,
From a place in Sydney to Cairns;
Then to Kuranda I went forth,
By train, to look without set plans.

I browsed through the trendy market,
With fresh fruits of tropical kind;
Walked to the creek through lush thicket -
Nature’s hand giving peace of mind.

I dined in a scenic cafe;
Then, outside, as I wrote for yen,
Some passing Kooris called-out: “Hey,
You go walkabout with your pen.”

Request or question, I don’t know -
Assured voices, elderly men.
That’s now several years ago,
And I’ve seen the world - with my pen.

David Franks: Walkabouts Verse

(Just enjoyed my visit.)

After you've finished here, you may like to hear this first poem sung on myspace.

Poem 162 of 230, walkaboutsverse. 741. com: TEES TO TYNE: FIRST IMPRESSIONS - SUMMER 2001

Where traditions are not so rare;
Sea, country and works scent the air;
A multitude of monuments,
Planted tubs and patterned pavements.

The longish pedestrian malls;
The remnants of defensive walls;
"Broken-roofed buildings" are a gauge
Of the respect for heritage.

Wheat, rape and pines in the fields;
Estuaries guarded by shields;
Long sandy beaches and wide scenes;
Romantic-ruin go-betweens.

Rivers in parts licked by trees,
Or fringed by boat clubs, wharfs, gantries,
And crossed by practical delights -
Varied spans, forming pleasing sights.

Fine churches headed at Durham;
Football kits ad infinitum;
Kept castles - one for study;
Masonry behind masonry.

And, with moulding-works out that way,
It’s somewhere for a longer stay..?

Poem 23 of 230, walkaboutsverse. 741. com: ABOVE EVEREST

When flying from Nepal to Thailand,
I was given a "good-side" seat;
And, as I looked out the plane window,
The view I saw was really neat.

For breaking through a thick sheet of cloud
Were the high Himalayan peaks;
And, rising the highest of them all,
Mount Everest - heaven bespeaks!

Hey - the flyer I was sent in the e-mail has the band on it "Lo-Fi Lung" but the one you sent me on myspace has my personal name? I was under the impression I was playing with the band, which would make things easier for me. Anyway - let me know, if so, is it too late to change the flyer? And what mp3 do you want?
