PURCHASE NEW CD, "BETTER THAN LIFE" !!!
In 1998, Ryan Gikas left his hometown of Granbury, TX and headed for Bryan-College Station to begin a new life. What he didn't know was that it would also be the beginning of life as a musician. Here, Ryan connected with other artists and musicians that had vision for a more creative and vibrant spiritual community, one that would thrive in the face of a dominant and established traditional rigidity. He formed Bohemia with Ryan Vaughn and wife, Catherine Johnson (now Gikas), in 2000, and began writing and performing songs for another year before recording his first album with Vaughn.
Members were transient during much of the bands history and particularly as the focus shifted in 2002 towards what seemed to be the strength of the group, facilitating an experience of heartfelt worship. At the end of 2004, Gikas had initiated "Worship with Bohemia," a monthly event aimed at facilitating authentic and raw worship. The event was held at a local community theater in downtown Bryan and succeeded in bringing people from all kinds of backgrounds to a highly improvised musical backdrop.
Towards the end of his stay in Bryan, Gikas partnered with recording artist Ross King and The Mix Lab to record his first solo album with Bohemia and other in-house studio musicians including Craig Weaver (percussion) Jeff Moore (electric),Joseph Degelia (electric), Josh Smith (violins),Brady Redwine (piano, organ), Andy Crawley (drums).
After moving back to Granbury to serve as the worship and youth pastor of Harvest Church, Gikas resumed the recording process with King and finished the final touches on the solo project to be released this Spring 2006. Ryan, Catherine, and their son Ira now live in Oklahoma City and continue to pursue music and worship. They are finding new expression in community with a church plant (Mars Hill) and with Bridgeway Church.
Gikas' style is adaptable to many different kinds of settings always making the most of whatever the venue may be. If you're interested in having him play at your event, venue, etc. please contact ryan.gikas@gmail.com.
