But I also like anything mechanical, gardening in nature, and many, many things whcih I never have time for. I also

Music
My favorite music is classical. However, I love jazz and pop if the music makes sense.
There's very little good music in the contemporary pop scene. First, in CDs, to cover up the fact that the artist can't sing well, they throw all kinds of percussion and loudness on it to cover his/her voice. The lyrics usually have no form whatsoever. It's all "juliana" soup.
Most rock bands have no taste or artistry; it's just a war of quadruple fortes to make the guests crazy and thus buy lots of booze.
I performed pop and classical for years, so I know what I'm talking about.
Movies
I have a phenomenal collection of movies in 4 categories: Classics, Biography, History and Science/Research; and I try to watch one complete DVD each day. Here again I find very little art. Only 2 out of every hundred can be worthy of a sigh. One of the best ever made is Roman Holiday with Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck.
Television
I don't watch it. LIES, LIES, LIES
Books
Though I'm an avid reader, as I get older I read less and less because I discovered that out of 100 books published only 2 have anything real to say. Authors just immitate one another. And publishers look for the greatest gossip and sensationalism in order to make money. Mind you, there's nothing wrong with making money if it is made by contributing to the welfare of life and humanity.

I was born on the Island of Madeira, off the coast of Portugal. Yes, I speak Portuguese, Spanish, some French and some Esperanto, the international language. I came to the US as a child. Began music in Jr. High School and won many honors in High School. Graduated from the Boston Conservatory of Music with a BA Degree in Music Education.
As a bassoonist, I performed extensively with many symphony orchestras in New England and the South. Studied voice with Grace Hunter, Mario Farrar, a few other teachers, and briefly at L.A. City College.
Studied Classical Guitar with Sophocles Papas in Washington DC. Also attended a master class in conducting with the renown French conductor, Pierre Monteaux, and studied conducting with Maestro Atilio Poto of Boston.
Played with the Birmingham (AL) Symphony for three years and the RI Philharmonic for four years. Also taught High School in Birmingham and my band won many honors including first place in the State two years in a row. Formed the Birmingham Society of Classical Guitar and performed extensively as a singer/guitarist. Was on TV many times.
In Massachussetts I opened my own Magnoart Studio and performed as song stylist for many years here. Founded the Boston Guitar Circle Inc. with the help of Jose Costa of Miami. Formed the Portuguese/Spanish Folk Song Society. Also founded the Magnoart Guitar Symphonette - 13 classical guitars, cello and bass.
I realized that the voice - the human instrument - is very different from other instruments in that, once the technique is mastered, success depends on the character of the singer. So I use self-improvement methods to develop "the person behind the voice," which is what I call my school of teaching. Some of my sudents are now performing all over the country and/or have positions teaching in recognized schools. Two of my students were accepted in master classes with Alexander Lagoya of France and Oscar Ghiglia of Italy. All my serious students claim, without fail, a great rise in self-esteem and ability to confront life. I have been teaching for 40 years.
I am also a published poet, author, songwriter, and a member of ASCAP, (American Society of Composers and Publishers). I have recorded two CDs titled, A Tapestry of Love, of my original songs, and, To You - My Imaginary Friend, The Poetry of Gil Magno.
My publications are the books: Developing Confidence and Personal Magnetism, which I use as a textbook for the voice; The Secret; How to Attract Your Love-Life-Partner; revision and expansion of the works on magnetism by Webster Edgerly; and my autobiography, Transcending Their Lies - An Artist’s Struggle to Free Himself from the Lies of Civilization.
