My name is Gilles Le Guen. i deejay, sing and write. I'm french, i moved to New York City late 90's for seven years where i developped my "from february 1978 to september 1983" dj style in parties & clubs like Apt, Tribeca Grand, Capitale, Knitting Factory, Rothko, Delancey, Double Happiness, Luxx, Lot 61, Drinkland, Happy Ending, Galapagos, Southside Lounge; art openings for Pieter Schoolwerth, Annika Larsonn or Cheyney Thompson; and radios like NYC's infamous WFMU, East Village Radio and WNYU. My dj selection is now more opened to new electro & rock.... doing a bridge between past & now....
I also deejayed in Hong Kong, Montréal, Sao Paulo, Brussels, Berlin, Paris, Lyon.... and my hometown, Rennes. I deejayed for fashion designer agnès b. events like DES JEUNES GENS MÖDERNES, Downtown 81 dvd release (w. James Chance), festival Art Rock "agnès b. carte blanche" 2008 (w. Metronomy, Poni Hoax), Band A Part photographs NYC underground exhibition; played in Paris at Nouveau Casino (w. Tuxedomoon), Bus Palladium (w. Marc Collin), Point Ephémère, Flèche d'Or (w. Charles de Goal etc etc), Gibus, Frigo, Bains-Douches... Or for events like Transmusicales 2008 (w. The Residents, Black Angels etc), Art Rock 2005 (w. Sonic Youth....) & 2008, La Berlinale 2009, Joy Division/Control movie partie (w. Frustration), festival Filmer la Musique 2008, Espace Art Contemporain La Rochelle.... I put out the DECADANSE Mix Series and the Deca:Break:Danse mix. The first one ended in the Top Airplay of NYC's WFMU radio. I opened for Gang of Four & Tuxedomoon in NYC, James Chance & the Contorsions, Sonic Youth, Charles de Goal, Poni Hoax, Metronomy, Frustration. In 2007, i put out a compilation with Marc Collin from NOUVELLE VAGUE called "Nouvelle Vague presents New Wave" on UK label District6. I did the music direction for a short movie of Montréal movie maker, Elli Raynai.
I sing with DENNER (see vidéo above) with fellow New Yorkers, Adam Humphreys & Mike Pate. We've been recording demos between NYC, Trébeurden and Brussels. We are now working on plans for our first album.
We are featured on the Charles de Goal tribute album "Expositions" with a cover of classic parisian synth-punk anthem "exposition" (Infastition/Brouillard Définitif/Self-Control).
Contributions with older projects are featured on "Warm the French Up!" agnès b. sampler (Deported); "Des Jeunes Gens Mödernes" cd compilation and the Tuxedomoon tribute album, "Adaptations from the Moon" (Dry Monopole).
I also wrote an article about french and european post-punk music for the book "DES JEUNES GENS MÖDERNES" (Naive) and i'm a consultant on the documentary movie to be released in 2010.
