THIS GOES OUT TO THE TRAINGANG LAZIN' @ THE STATION
The Gilpin Railroad Incident was founded in late September 2005 by Chris Soper and Brad Radley. Brad and Becky Bowden had played together before in a classic/Southern rock cover band called Nuthin Fancy, then Chris replaced Becky on bass when she left the band in 2001. Wayne Gross joined soon after, and they transformed into Northern Rage, playing the bar circuit all over Maine.
Due to the the rigors of gigs and personal issues, the band fell apart. Chris and Brad had been playing acoustic guitars on the side for a while just for fun, as it has always been a passion for them. They started out playing in the house, doing cover songs. Brad had a few originals that they would fool around with, never taking themselves seriously. After about an eight-month break from playing out, Brad and Chris thought, "What the hell? Let's put some tunes together and play out all-acoustics with a friend." They called Becky and Wayne to come lay down some tracks for something to do. So started the Incident.
That first practice happened, and Brad, Chris and Becky started to work on a few originals they each had written. Within a couple weeks, half a dozen songs were written. Within the next two months, the trio would more than double that tally. Then it was total excitement. The songs were great, everyone who heard the demo we recorded in the basement absolutely loved it and was begging for a copy. We didn't know what to think. We were doing exactly what we wanted --- playing our own songs and revolutionizing a style of music that is not being played anywhere on the radio. With the addition of singer Sharla Hamor that summer, we were able to raise the bar on our harmony vocals and add a whole new layer of sound to our music. In the summer of 2007 we heard that keyboard player Aimee Hopkins was back in town; we ended up inviting her to the Incident too, and it totally transformed our sound. With Wayne's departure in September '07 we brought friend and fan Jamie Moore on board to play drums. Later that fall, we parted ways with Sharla and played as a five-piece for a few months before a fan told us about Jennifer Candage. When we heard her sing we knew she had to be part of our group, which would ramp up our sound yet another significant notch.
We've won a battle of the bands. We've opened for Rodney Atkins, Steve Riley and the Mamou Playboys, and James McMurtry. We've played a cast/crew party for Extreme Home Makeover. All within the first two years of our existence. Since then we've broadened our musical scope quite a bit --- our writing, playing and vocal skills continue to get more and more seasoned. And now as we prepare to record our debut album, after taking a practice run at recording in a studio in '06 and learning a lot from that experience, it looks like anything can happen. We'll take it as it comes, do it our own way on our own terms, and totally enjoy the ride. Even if we never "make it," we can be proud of our accomplishments as individual members and as a family, and we'll have some great music and fantastic experiences to show for our efforts.
Why do we struggle and work so hard in a state where it's practically impossible for groups that play original songs to make it? Because MAINE HAS ENOUGH COVER BANDS.
Are we pioneers from the Pine Tree State? Maybe. Maybe not. But one thing is for sure ...
"WE ARE THE COOLEST EVER ... in the whole time of EVERNESS."

Well we should've been suspicious about the cash part from the very get go. I thought I had heard that before too that you're not supposed to have to pay anything, and my Mom reminded me of that and I am glad she sent us the forum link. But seriously don't totally give up on it, because I don't know how independent labels work. They might be different. Please still consider that this COULD be a potentially legit offer and just get a lawyer to look this over. I called the real Decca records and even they won't confirm to me that this is a scam so it's still worth a shot looking in to. Listen, we both need to read this book I got a little while back called The Music Business and how not to get ripped off, etc....
