Mastering Engineers have the knowledge of putting art, technique and expertise all together with a set of trained ears to make the final stages of the audio process magical.
Engineer Gil Tamazyan has been around high end audio his entire life. Born into a musical household, engineering and high-fi audio equipment was a part of daily life from the very beginning. At age 19, he was already recording artists such as Battlecat and Mac 10 at Blue Palm Studios. He then progressed onto Image Studios with mix engineer Chris Lord Algea where they had sessions with GREEN DAY, JOE COCKER, LL COOL J. and more.
After working in music studios, post production studios and music
production facilities, he then went on to work as a techincian designing, building and wiring studios for such artists as BabyFace, Stevie Wonder and John McClain. Additionally, he continued his technical experience with Solid State Logic working on consoles.
Gil then started his own mastering company called Capsule Mastering Labs. He perfected the art of cutting lacquer master discs using a Neumann lathe customized. Gil Tamazyan is one of only two Cutting Engineers in the world offering Half Speed Mastering services.
This process involves dropping the program and the machines to half the speed and cutting it in slow motion to give you extrordinary sonic response. Gil has also modified and customized his 1966 lathe controls to be automated with midi information coming from Pro Tools.
While mastering full time for a few years, he soon expanded into a full service vinyl pressing plant using fully automated SMT pressing machines offering record pressings at its finest (135g and 192g). Over the years Gil has mastered and pressed projects for labels and producers all over the world. His sound and expertice have been heard and respected by some of the biggest names in audio such as KENNY DOPE (Masters at Work), POLYDOR Records, IMMORTAL Records, MASSIVE ATTACK, MOBY, RONI SIZE, SOUND IN COLOR, STRANGE FRUIT PROJECT, THE REBIRTH, PEOPLE UNDER THE STAIRS, DIVERSE EXPLOSIVE(RJD2), FRESH AIR, PUMA Corp., Vestax Corp., CROWN CITY ROCKERS, and THE EARL. Gil has recently joined the team at Threshold Sound in Santa Monica where they offer audio services from A to Z in a multi million dollar state of the art facility. Some recent projects By Gil at Threshold Mastering include:PEARL JAM, REM, BARENAKED LADIES, BUSHMAN, BB KING, OM RECORDS, INLAND KNIGHTS.
Combining his expertice with the profesionally tuned rooms and stocked racks at Threshold Sound, there is no other mastering studio that can compare. Even though this experience may not be for everyone, some people feel their music deserves the best.
