The Gimmick 3 is a rock band based in New York City that fuses solid songwriting with intense, eclectic musicianship, shaping a sound that is uniquely dynamic and powerful. The band's music often blurs stylistic boundaries and pushes the extremes of expression, yet maintains a solid musical foundation. Their gamut of sound encompasses the fierce multifariousness of Mr. Bungle, the off-putting rawness of The Mahavishnu Orchestra, and the sincere and epic songwriting of Radiohead. The Gimmick 3's music, as such, knows few bounds, yet maintains a reserve and coherence that keeps it uniquely their own.
The Gimmick 3 consists of three members: Josh on vocals and guitar, John on guitar and vocals, and Frau on drums and vocals. Each brings a unique perspective to the group, contributing to the band's eclectic sound.
Josh's talents span many creative arts and styles: he has involved himself in the visual arts in addition to being an avid and published writer of poetry, fiction, and screenplays. Josh's unique guitar style and expressive vocal technique have been developed through street and subway performing, as well as singing for the metal band Spostahurt and singer-songwriter duo Bitter Suite, among other projects. John is a film graduate of NYU's Tisch School of the Arts, and has often supplemented film work with his musical talents. He has since honed his ethereal guitar skills through performance with the avant-art-rock band The Equation and the progressive acoustic duo Whitico Syndrome. Frau holds a degree in Music Theory and Composition, and has been involved in projects ranging from audio engineering through classical composition. His performing career has included the folk-rock band Loaf of Bread, the death metal ensemble Czesc, reggae/rock sensation The People's Band Of China, and the experimental Mortmain Experiment.
The band's members have all been long-time performers in the New York City area, and as such have amassed a collective army of fans. Amongst the many New York locales and venues at which The Gimmick 3 band members have performed are CBGB's, Kenny's Castaways, Mo Pitkin's, and The Spiral. The Gimmick 3 itself performed Lit Lounge in December, 2008, and March, 2009, and Trash Bar in January, 2009. These shows were well-received and drew sizeable crowds. A private concert organized by the band in late Summer, 2008, was attended by over forty people.
Due to their dynamic stylistic breadth, The Gimmick 3 is sure to please a wide variety of musical adherents. With upwards of twenty original songs in their repertoire and a constant flow of new material, The Gimmick 3 consistently brings something new to the table.
