GINA TIMMS – BIOGRAPHY
Powerful, dynamic and entertaining are just a few words to describe this Tasmanian-born country singer. That petite package born almost 40 years ago has become the one and only Gina Timms, now living back in Tassie following a lengthy stay interstate after the birth of her children, Jakeb and Samuel. When her sons were born Gina scaled down her appearances to concentrate on motherhood.
Now with a new CD, It’s Time, about to be unleashed on an unsuspecting public, Gina Timms is well and truly back on the road – and coming to a venue near you.
Juggling motherhood and live performances is no problem for Tasmania’s Barnardos Mother of the Year 2007. It’s all about multi-tasking and organisation – something every mum knows only too well.
Gina Timms is a barrel of laughs in more ways than one. That big voice of hers can turn heads – and then there’s the rest of the package. No performance is half-hearted. Gina gives her all – and there’s a lot of love to give with this amazing entertainer.
She’s a five-foot human dynamo on stage, whose theme song, Texas (When I Die) has brought the house down at many a show during her regular Tamworth Country Music Festival appearances.
You’ve probably caught her act around Tamworth or watched Gina in action hosting the annual Ladies of Country Show at Wests, or as chief judge of the Aristocrat Country Entertainer of the Year, held at Wests each January.
Gina wasn’t just a festival visitor to Tamworth. She made the city her home in 1991, arriving to record an album, and she didn’t get around to leaving for another four years. In 1991 she won the Beat’n’Trak talent search and was a Toyota Star Maker grand finalist. In those four years in Tamworth, she made lots of friends and built up a loyal fan base in the north-west and New England, where she toured regularly.
Gina’s endless work for charity has also earnt her the respect of many fundraising organisations, including Barnardos Australia, who named her Tasmania’s Mother of the Year in 2007.
In her stage shows, Gina Timms packs quite a punch. It’s pure enjoyment, enthusiasm, talent … and fun.
