  • Bio

I arrived in London in 2006, and since then I've been busy playing Jazz piano with the likes of Peter King and Mornington Lockett, Disco keys alongside the Average White Band and Sister Sledge, and soul with such illuiminaries as Jocelyn Brown and Sibel 'Everybody loves the sunshine' Thrasher.. As well as playing with big UK pop acts such as Lee Mead and Professor Green support slots with sidekick Ed 'Champagne Lemonade' Drewett.. And as well as that, you'll find me writing and performing with some tremedously talented singers such as Katie Leone, Jo Harman and Princess Freesia.. I'm also a big synth-head, and you might see me churning out bleeps and bloops with Orangafruup, Lazersonic, as well as making my own esoteric brand of ambient electro-spacejazz.. And when I'm not playing the keys, I'll be beavering away transcribing and publishing piano scores for Faber and Music Sales (such as 'The Duke Ellington original piano transcriptions', and loads of various other stuff).. ...... --- .. Latest news .. .. November 2010 - Man! It's been busy! I've been working with producer 'SoulPersona', making music and being part of the soul family - the highlight so far was an amazing gig with the likes of Darien, Kia Bennet, Sibel Thrasher and Jocelyn Brown.. And there's gonna be some heavy sounds going down now that Princess Freesia has arrived in town!! .. April 2010 - As well as completing my SpaceJazz album, I've also been supporting Sister Sledge, Average White Band and Marlena Shaw with Soul Reality, and playing a weekly residency at Hideaway, a new Jazz Club in Streatham, playing alongside Jazz greats 'Level' Neville Malcolm (Incognito), Aaron Lidard (Amy Winehouse) and Vince Dunn (Roy Ayers) .. June 09 .. .. I've currently been playing a monthly residency with Soul Reality at the famous 606 Jazz Club in Chelsea, to sell-out crowds, our biggest coup to date was supporting Mica Paris! (And what a gig that was!) .. .. Feb 09 .. .. I'm currently working with a great collective of soul musicians from Brighton, under the banner of 'Soul Reality' and the 'Psychedelic Circus' (check them out!) .. 14/11/08 .. .. After spending 6 years in the wilderness of North Essex, I finally moved to London in Jan 2008, and since then I've been working with a myriad of bands and artists, including The Fontanas, Sejuice, Seb Genovese, Roberto Manzin, playing Jazz, Pop, Latin, Rock, Reggae, Funk (and so on..) Now I'm also using this downtime to create a recession-twinged leviathan ambient electrojazz album called 'The Reverend Red Hudson's SpaceJazz Hymnbook Vol.1' - check out the preview, it's most likely playing right now. Kudos/Peace to Roberto Manzin for his fabulous alto solo, and Craigy Tiffin for the facemelting guitar solo on the preview.. There'll be an official Red Reverend myspace page coming soon, as soon as Cubase decides to start behaving itself :) .. ...... .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. ..Papa Was A Rolling Stone - Brighton (Terry 'Waawaa' Lewis - Gtr, Andy Frost - Drums, Carl Hudson - Keys Bass, Johanna Harman, Sammy Sarfas Abi Gilchrist - Vox).. .... .... .. .. .. .. .. .. .. ..Tive Razo - Live at Ginglik, Shepherd's Bush with Rodrigo Lampreia.. .... ..

  • Influences

I'm massively influenced by Herbie and Stevie - they're my two main men.. I love all the great swinging cats - Oscar, Fatha Hines, Ellington (but not without Billy Strayhorn!).. And then there's George Duke, Greg Phillinganes, Jeff Lorber, David Paich and pretty much anyone else from the LA session scene in the early 80s, they're the best in the world. Mustn't leave out Steely Dan either.. Then I'm well into soul - old soul, nu-soul.. D'angelo, Jill Scott, Erykah Badu and the rest of the Philly peeps.. I've got a soft spot for DnB too, starting with Roni Size (New Forms) and working on from there.. I'm into the new sounds at the min, breakcore, dubstep (although that's not really that new anymore), but above all I love anything that's a bit Jazzy, with a Latin vibe, a bit of Soul, and with a big dollop of Electro..

June 2011

Lots of things have been bubbling over the last couple of months.. I've recently been working with soul greats Noel McKoy and Joy Rose, playing at venues such as the 606, and the awesome 'Chaka Zulu' in Camden. I've also been working on Volume 2 of the SpaceJazz Hymnbook - look out for the previews on Soundcloud! There's gonna be some big things coming up over the summer, so I'll be busy beavering away and woodshedding in the Synthphonic Workshop in the meantime..

April 2011

Well, the biggest coup to date was playing for the 'Giants of Rare Groove' gig at the Indigo O2 back in March. Without a doubt it was the best gig of my career to date - on stage for two-and-a-half hours, playing Rhodes, Prophet, Strings and Piano for Leon Ware, Jean Carne, The Valentine Brothers (who were just incredible!) and the lovely Sheree Brown.. Gig highlights.. Doing the Hokey-Cokey with Sheree Brown as a pre-gig warmup? Billy Valentine sitting in the front row, singing his heart out with a crowd of screaming onlookers? Watching my Dad make pleasantries with Marvin Gaye's right-hand man? Too many to mention!
