Ginger's Blurbs |
About me:
I grew up on a 500 acre cotton farm that my daddy owned south of Delhi, Louisiana, in Franklin Parish. My family has always been very close and loving. I am the youngest of 6 children, 3 girls and 3 boys. Growing up, my life was fairly easy but quite sheltered. I loved my mama, but I was a Daddy's girl! My father, mother, oldest sister, and oldest brother are deceased.
I am married to a wonderful man who is my best friend, and my knight in shining armor. He is the person whom I most admire in the whole world. We have been married for 41 wonderful years as of May 26 and have 3 beautiful daughters: Ashley, Melissa, and Lindsay. I also have a beautiful older daughter, Jennifer. We are proud and thankful that all 4 of our daughters are college graduates. Jennifer has her Masters' Degree in Education. She and her husband, Robert, own House of Cycles in West Monroe, and Robert has a degree in Business. Ashley has a B.A. in Journalism and in Education, too. She is married to Billy and is home schooling their oldest son, Caleb. Billy has a degree in Computer Programming, but he is currently pursuing a degree at Dallas Theological Seminary (DTS). Melissa has her degree in General Studies with a Major in Humanities and a Minor in Math and does social work. Lindsay has her degree in Sociology with a Minor in Psychology and works for the state in social work.
I am the proud grandmother of 4 precious grandchildren: a beautiful granddaughter, Brooklyn, who is 16, and 3 handsome grandsons: Seth 11, Caleb 9, and Jacob 6. Jennifer and Robert live down the street from me. Brooklyn and Seth are their children, so I get to see them often. Ashley and Billy live in Mesquite, Texas, while he attends Dallas Theological Seminary, so I don't get to see Caleb and Jacob as often. Billy just recently returned from a trip to Greece with his Greek professor where he photographed ancient documents for his professor who runs a
foundation that archives photographic records of ancient manuscripts so that if anything ever happens to the originals, there is still a record
of them. He also uses them for research.
Melissa bought a really cute house about 7 minutes away, and Lindsay is renting from her. I love having most of my family near me and making good memories together. We usually have a "Family Night" once a week. I cook dinner for them and we will watch "Survivor" if it is on, or we will play board games or the card games Nerts or Nines.
I am a teacher; however, I do not teach full time anymore. I really like what I do now because I am not tied down. I have taught in Ouachita and Bossier Parish Schools and at Northeast Louisiana Baptist School. I have taught grades 4 - 8 and some high school classes. Now I work exclusively for Calhoun Middle School and / or West Ouachita High School.
About 13 years ago we hosted 2 foreign students. The year Melissa was a senior, Jana from Switzerland lived with us. The following year when Lindsay was a junior, Sharon from The Netherlands lived with us. We still keep in contact with them through e-mail and send them goodie boxes at Christmas.
I was the first youth minister at Clark Springs Baptist Church. I served there for almost 7 years, and I really loved it; however, I felt that it was time that they found someone a little younger to keep up with the youth.
I sponsor 2 children through World Vision. One is from Ethiopia and the other is from Lebanon. I have been sponsoring children through World Vision since 1994 in order to try to make a difference in the life of a child or children. World Vision is such a worthy and respected organization that is accountable for the money that it uses. Plus, no more than 15% is used for administration. br />
Our pet, a black cat with white whiskers named Onyx, died in March of 2007. She was almost 17 years old. We have another cat about a year old named Bella. Onyx was quite small, weighing around 6 pounds, but she could still chase any dog out of her yard. She was, shall I say, territorial. She was old and could not hear well anymore and was hit by a car. When we lived in Blanchard, LA, she followed Ashley and Billy to the house when they were out for a walk in our neighborhood. She had a puncture wound in her neck, and I took her to the vet. She had been with us since then until she passed away. She was a sweetie, very tolerant of children, and Bo was her favorite person.
We have had Bella since she was a kitten. She is sweet, social, and mischievous. She is a beautiful silver tabby tortie. She thinks that everything and everyone is her toy. She is verbal, and does not like to be corrected.
I currently have a cat that is 1 1/2 yrs.old that is believed to be part bobcat. He has the markings: a bobtail, silky soft fur on his underbelly, golden coloring on his underbelly, a ruff around his neck, and tufts at the top of his ears. He is a rascal; hence, named Rascal. I received him for my birthday in 2007. He is so sweet but bad, too! And such a whiney baby!!! He has to be wherever I am at all times! What can I say, he just LOVES his mama! Every afternoon when I get home from work, he naps with me on the sofa.

Who I'd like to meet:
I would have loved to have met Mother Teresa because I admire her tremendously for her great love of God and her compassion and love for mankind. I once read that as she was walking down a street in India, she saw a dying man with maggots on his body, lying on the side of a street. She immediately got down beside the man, cradled him in her arms, picked the maggots off his body, and continued holding him in her arms until he died. When asked why she had done this, her reply was that she did not want him to die alone, and she wanted to restore some of his dignity to him. Wow! I have so much respect for this remarkable lady. Just think, if we would all try to emulate her, what a better world this would be! Now that's what I call a role model!
