Introducing... Girls Can't Catch
Are you ready to meet your favourite new girl band? Here we go!
Carrying more of a swagger than your average girl group, Girls Can't Catch are bringing a bit of street cred back to pop. They are definitely the All Saints to Girls Aloud's Spice Girls. But more of that later.
Phoebe, Daizy and Jess all have very different backgrounds and stories to tell which only helped the band get more creative when it came to recording their debut album. Step this way and we'll introduce you...
First up is the band's very own tarot card reader, Daizy. Describing herself as 'a woman with experience' (not in that way!) she recorded her first album when she was fifteen, then she went on to run for Eurovision and even had one of her songs recorded by urban producer SoundBwoy along the way. She got fans in the shape of Brit hip hop star Sway and US R&B star Joe both who selected her to win a Hugo Urban Rules award back in 2006!
Next up is Miss Phoebe Brown who some of you may recognise from 2007's sassy girlband Hope. Getting Simon all worked up with their rendition of 'Hanky Panky', Phoebe was the lead singer and they were regularly performing in front of crowds of more than 10 million. But Hope's loss is Phoebe's gain as she is psyched about her new band. 'It got to the point where I was going to give up completely and get a normal job,' she says, 'And then this came along and suddenly everything clicked. We all really get on - no fighting about who's going to sing what bits in the studio! It's amazing.'
Last but by no means least is Jess who considers Keyshia Cole, Common and Jay Z, major influences. By her early teens she was singing with a gospel choir and next she started recording in her bedroom. Jess then went on to win a competition with her recording of Marvin's 'Stand By Me' and the prize? One for the 'Life's goals' checklist - an all expenses paid trip to New York and a recording session with Jay-Z and Alicia Keys' producer Freek.
Now on to the music. The girls have already worked with girlband royalty, co-writing one song, 'Turn Me Up' with All Saint's Shaznay Lewis. Hence the early comparison. The track is sure to be blowing up big time when it gets its release later in the year. However before all that is the first single, 'Keep Your Head Up', a slinky, sassy little number which will have you singing 'Your head up, your head up, your head up, up, up' all summer.
But don't take our word for it, head down to the 'Out of Control Tour 2009' and listen to the band debut their material as support act for Girls Aloud.
