The concept started really simple. When listening to random music, we found ourselves stopping on the songs with female vocals the most. little by little we started to notice that more and more of the music we heard was also female sung. jukeboxes in bars, background music, even music while waiting for other bands to perform. The memorable songs sung at tribute events were always the women.
We quietly made ourselves a way to hear the music we most listened to, no matter where we were. We thought others might want to hear the same stuff. As we started to aquire the music we would need to make a radio station, we discovered a new world of music and found out 1 station was never going to be enough. What if your in the mood for rock? maybe a new indie artist? perhaps your a country fan. Maybe your across the world and what we like has no reflection on your culture? Maybe your like us and your likes can't be classified or even fit any specific genre. GirlsOwnRadio, the concept, was born....
On and off for the last couple years, we've worked on GOR. While we haven't opened the doors yet, we are close. Aquiring music as we can, finishing up the mounds of licensing paperwork. Building out the technological needs to make it happen. Designing our own rotation system. Developing a few shows. Even taking the concept of internet broadcasting to the next level and creating a way to broadcast from anywhere we want, in the middle of nowhere, your garage for a live practice session. Anywhere, even if theres no power.
As we traveled this road to get here, we discovered we were doing something bigger than just making an amateur radio network with no budget. Besides just being radio, we have a real opportunity to join in and make a mark on the world of women in music. A great resource for the women that not only sing the music, but make it, play in the band, rig the stage, operate the board, broadcast on other stations and take the photos...
GirlsOwnRadio the reality is much more than the concept. We have taken a multi-fold attack on the concept. On one side, we will be an ever evolving network of SEVERAL radio stations. On the other side, we will be a website that helps get the word about women in music out. While not limited to just women in music its definately a great starting point for our listeners and your fans to find out more about what they are listening too and how to get more info and buy their music.
