About me:

My name is Selina Simmons, I live in Jacksonville Florida in the US. I am 24 and I have been tattooing for 6 years this August and working at my current studio since February 2003. I am a High School graduate with college level art training. The classes I enlisted in included Art 1 and 2 advanced techniques, applying techniques like stippling, cross hatching, light sources, and multiple points of perspective. Portfolio building Advanced Placement 1-3, emphasizing on creating a strong portfolio of your art to sell your talents and create a college level portfolio. 3d Art such a basic sculpting techniques and pottery. Portrait drawing spending 3 hours or longer in a school day working strictly on portrait drawing. Figure drawing, gesture drawing and proportional human figures. In my figure drawing class all of these three subjects were combined together to achieve an accurate human form, and likeness to the subject matter.

All of the formal training I have had was taught by one teacher, Ms. Anderson of Terry Parker High School, here in Jacksonville Fla. It might be quite a long distance call if you wanted to talk her, but I can ask her to email you if you like. My other art influences and teachers include Jason Thiel, my boss and studio owner of Tattoo Thiels here in Jacksonville. Deborah Inksmith (Sophia Olivera). I worked for her briefly about a 2 years ago. I have also kept in close contact with her asking her questions whenever I can. I worked a guest spot for her on my days off from my current studio. It was more so of a transition to work for her permanently. However with all the wonderful opportunity she can give me I did not leave my current studio for personal reasons. The owner of the studio I am at, Jason Thiel, is like my brother and I have known him for nearly 13 years.

When Jason Thiel apprenticed me, my duties included all the standards of a professional tattoo artist. This includes cleaning, sterilizing, drawing, making stencils, and needle making. As a combined effort of everyone at our shop we have maintained a high level of cleanliness recognized by the health department and its staff. We are in the process of getting APT certified. Through out my apprenticeship I learned how to tune machines and repair/build tattoo machines. I also learned how to make needles, from 100 magnums to single liner needles. Over the years I have been here I have honed my skills through the help of Jason, Deborah, and many other artists. I've Also taking classes while attending tattoo conventions from artists like Brandon Bond and Shane O'Neil.

Tattooing is a deep love and fulfillment for me. I adore the art, the people, the culture, and above all the opportunity to meet other artists. Tattooing has taught me many things and has been a powerful entity to express my creativity. I have many hobbies aside from tattooing that have all translated into tattooing in some way or another. This includes Painting, sewing, airbrushing, cosplay, kimono, costume making, sculpting, photography, cartooning, knitting, crocheting, quilting, photography, wig making, altering and styling for costume purposes, Japanese hobby garage build kits, collecting dolls and customizing them. I keep a few different species of snakes, including 2 ball pythons, 3 redtail boas, a burmese python and a fussy cornsnake.

I have a vast collection of hobbies to keep myself busy with. I adore art and being creative. If I know anything you would like to learn just ask me! I swear I wont bite! however I do not make stuff for free <3
