The Saturn Return 30 Year Reunion - Be There Now Festival 2008 music videos and 1978 music tracks: Steve Gabe - Drums, Lead Vocals, Harp; Dan Goitein - Bass; Alan Watt - Lead Guitar, Vocals; Julie Ann Layne - Vocals, Guitar, Percussion; Steve Berry - Percussion, Vocals; Scott Gartner - Keyboards. Scott is the only non-original member of Gladden Fields to play at the reunion but he and I were in our first band together, Blue Fog, in Tenafly, NJ when we were in elementary school. When we were 12 we had the good fortune to play with Wilson Pickett and Bobby Hebb. How this happened was that Wilson's nephew (son of Decca Records exec Clyde Otis) had heard us playing outside on Scott's porch just down the block from the Sugar Hill section in Englewood Cliffs where Dizzy Gillespie and other famous musicians lived. He said "My Uncle Wilson is over do you want to jam with him?" I said "Who's your Uncle?" He said "Wilson Pickett. Ever heard of him?" I said "Damn right! In the Midnight Hour, Mustang Sally Wilson Pickett?" He said "Damn right and Bobby "Sunny" Hebb his buddy is there too!" We loaded up his VW bug to the top with all the gear and since there was no room for us we ran over behind the car. We got there a little out of breath but excited as heck and set up as quick as we could. Scott had played with Bill Haley and the Comets when he was just 6 but this time I was there beats and all. They were relaxing and playing pool cool as could be so when they walked out onto the patio we were little scared. Scott started playing Bobby's hit "Sunny" and they cracked up looking at these two little white boys trying our best to play real soul music, but they liked what they heard and then played with us! We played "Proud Mary" and then a few of their hits and joked around. It was the musical thrill of a lifetime. 12 years later I was hoping to interview Wilson at the Lone Star Cafe for a college paper. I went up to him and said "Hey, Wilson remember me? I played with you when I was 12" He looked at me and said "I don't know you get out of my face before I call security" but the show was great and I made a bootleg tape I still have today. Steve G.
