2008 and beyond

I’ve been singing and playing music for as long as I can remember. There was nothing else I ever wanted to be or do.

2008 has seen the beginnings of recording my new full length album as a follow up to my EP, “I’m Alive”, which I released in 2006. The EP was a paradox of styles with hints of smooth jazz and old school R&B, a dabble in electronic sounds and a fair splash of blues thrown in for good measure. It’s the sort of music I spin on the sound system in the wee hours when the dark of night allows abandonment of all sense and rationale .

One of the shining lights in being an independent artiste is that I can do what I want, when I want. I’m not boxed in, which is good considering my broad musical tastes. I like being in a position to explore whatever takes my fancy. “I’m Alive” allowed me to dip my toe into the sea of musical delights. It was a tentative dip, but songs like “Cold Cold City” will stand the test of time with its universal theme of loneliness and finding strength in oneself.

This new album which I expect to be released in 2009 will touch on some of my dearest subjects. Lust, love lost (or never had), love gained, self realisation, resolution and forgiveness. There are tinges of bitterness (I’m releasing the hounds), self deprecation, humour, regret and slightly inflated (yet fragile) ego. Much like me. It's the "Life" concept album – [insert self mocking chuckle] - and the logical step on from the "I'm Alive" ep!

Musically, it's very passionate, a bit funky, bass driven and heavy on the glamourous sounds.. Have a listen to the sneak peeks (first drafts) in my music player for a taste of what's to come.
